I’m pretty sure he didn’t learn it in the last two days.

Newsflash - coaches are stubborn. Often to their own detriment. Clearly the case here.
You're probably right - coaches hate to play good 7 footers with 10ft wingspans...

UNLV with zero field goals in 8 minutes. I thought only we were that inept

They’re not good. But you know neither are we. Like the blocks. Like the attacking the hoop. Like the froshmen playing. Lots to like today. Mostly would like a W.

I, too, think that he is going to be a great contributor throughout his Illini career. However, today has been the first game that I have watched on television where he has not looked like a PG from NBA Jam. It could simply be me, but when he is defending I cannot help but picture the small, animated Kevin Johnson from the Suns lineup offering.

Kane hadn’t learned the offense or otherwise wasn’t ready.

He’s playing now so must have figured it out.
Wesson (OSU) would have tossed him around like a rag doll as well. UNLV big guys are similar to SK in girth - so this is a good game to let him play.

It’s a good match-up for Kane to get playing time as well. He’s not overmatched in size or strength against any of their big guys.

If this was for example a game against MSU, I would expect to see a heavy dose of De La Rosa regardless of how well Samba may or may not know the offense because I can’t imagine Samba being able to hold his position on the block against Ward.

My guess would be pressure to win right now.

That could be. It’s logical at least. I mean we’ve never seen a scenario where coaches play less talented upper-classmen valuing experience over ability. (Except like every coach we’ve ever had save maybe Self).

I guess...I remember Kane coming in and altering a shot and then never see him again

I agree this is a good match up for him. That said, I don’t think there are many “good” matchups for DLR, especially given his health. He’s struggled mightily all year on defense and if he knows the offense it’s hard to say. I can count the number of times he’s passed the ball this year on one hand.

I’m a play for the future guy, especially in a year where we are going nowhere fast. I guess others sees it differently though.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m very pro playing the younger guys like Samba since I’m not convinced DLR could hit a barn from 5 ft away with his shot, but DLR is going to get PT against bigger centers. Samba has some flashes, but he’s at least another summer of hitting the weights hard before making significant contributions imo
