Cumby and Coleman both visited other schools this week. I still have a good feeling on Coleman but I’m waiting for an announcement from Cumby that he will not sign in the Early Signing Period. Just don’t have a good feeling about him.
More good vibes still around Cumby than Coleman at the moment fwiw. Staff still isn't pleased with Cumby taking a visit though.

Yes, this is not the case in the ncaa. Also, every scholarship is not guaranteed, the big 10 has given schools the option to offer multi year deals. Michigan state had 35 multi year contracts. This is like offering a competitive advantage, it doesn’t protect athletes.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cb...jor-conference-to-guarantee-scholarships/amp/

I asked Robert Rosenthal (he knows more than i'll ever know) on twitter - scholarships are guaranteed for 4 years (as long as the athlete is in good standing with the institution)... I also tweeted Jeremy Werner

I think the "multi year" contracts discussed in your article were being offered prior to the new rule of 4 year guarantees.

Thanks for the clarification.

Concur, not the best for a young player to get beaten up. Needs 15-20 lbs, probably can add 10 lbs first year. MLB is taking direct hits from some mighty RBs. Saw some of our safeties "miss" tackles when going head to head with an RB.
As well as from some offensive linemen.

My only problem with this is that no one can predict what "good standing" means.

I would think that would mean not in any trouble with the program and not on academic probation. That may still leave a bit of gray area, but I think it removes the "you don't fit into the future, so I want to Crean you" scenario that is invoked just because a player doesn't end up being what the staff had hoped/thought.

So to recap what I’ve learned today...
Luke Ford is in the NCAA transfer portal apparently and is currently at home with his family.
Jeff Thomas is transferring to either Missouri or Illinois (Apparently we lead at the moment).
Kyron Cumby is singing with us.
Coleman is up in the air.
I’m sure you all know this but just recapping. Seems like although this class is small it will be one of the highest average rankings we have ever had.

I didn’t realize Ford followed Fields to Georgia. If they are both transferring...maybe they still want to play together?

Ford is coming here. Will Fields follow Ford here? absolutely not.

Has there been any thought about Cooper playing OLB?? Certainly light to be a MLB right now but I think light, athletic linebackers are going to be more and more common in the next few years. The days of blowing up Iso are numbered at the linebacker position. Big linebackers are the reason Tarik Cohen and Rondale Moore are nightmares to defend.

Our base defensive set is a 4-2-5, so we really don't have outside line backers, more like 2 middles. He'll probably be the weak side MLB

I would like to know what the NCAA transfer portal is, if you happened to learn that today.

Does Kyron Cumby have a good voice?

Yep, that has to be a strong indicator for Illinois. If we could land Thomas, Ford and Tate, next year could be real interesting.

The offense would be even more dynamic than it currently is - but what about the Defense? That's where we need the most help - Eifler for Phillips and everyone gets older - but the D was really REALLY bad last year

My interpretation was that if Thomas stays in the Power Five, he is likely headed here, but he very well might drop down to an FCS school (to be immediately eligible or due to academics). I am not sure if I would go so far as to say we lead.
