Indiana 73, Illinois 65 POSTGAME

It would be nice to have the whole team for once, between Frazier concussed or ankle, late for shootaround, Tev, Adonis getting healthy, Kipper in witness protection, let's get everyone available, work them in and let's get going. Even after our badness tonight we were within 4 points at go time.

Our players play scared. They pass to spots even if the spot is covered because they are over coached. The defensive system will never work. I was a BU guy but i see a team worried about mistakes and that is on the coach. If he would let players like griffin, kane, jones play through mistakes without fear of a sub they could grow. Honestly our team has talent but they are freshman and they cant play scared or they cant grow. I am afraid they will all transfer and play significant roles at other scholls. Jones, Griffin and Kane can all be starters on a good team. Jones has star potential. Yes i have seem him play

If BU wants to keep his job less jordan and kipper and more griffin and jones. No more delrosa and more of kane. If higgins is healthy play him as well. Time to grow and make mistakes. What happened to “we shoot in 7 seconds?” Let the kids play.

I'd like to start off by asking the forum a question. When we lost the 10 point lead in the 1st half, were tied at half, were down by 15 with 8+ minutes to play, did you think we would lose by 8 or 28? Anyone who said 8 needs to back away from the koolaid!

In looking at the box score there's a bunch of good and bad to look at:
Kipper 16 minutes, 1/6 shooting, 5 fouls & 2 points - wow, I don't know what is going on but I think he should be coming off of the bench until he figures it out.
Georgi 8/10, 7 boards, 5 turnovers (ouch) & 18 points - it was mentioned before but he is going to be really fun to watch over the next few years.
Ayo 7/12, 4/6 from 3, 0 fouls & 20 points - it feels like he is starting to get more comfortable on offense and hopefully the D will follow soon!
TF 4/13, 2/8 from 3, 6 assists, 3 turnovers and 11 points - definitely an off night for him but it is encouraging that the team stayed within 10 at IU.
AJ 1/6, 0/4 from 3, 4 boards and 2 points - really off offensively and gets beat badly off the dribble when guarding athletic players.
Feliz 15 minutes, 3 points, missed another front end of a 1&1 and 2 turnovers - can't create his own shot and needs to shoot 1000 free throws a day!
Griffin 7 minutes, 0/4 from 3, 4 rebounds, 1 steal & 3 turnovers - BU please give Griffin Kipper's minutes so he can get into some sort of flow.
Kane 0 minutes - what in God's name is going on with this??? Is he hurt??? Is he in the dog house??? BU, please put him on the court!!!

Other Observations:
Langford is really good on both ends of the floor. I hope he is one and done because we have no one who can guard him.
Our offense is atrocious! I don't know if I have ever seen such a combination of turnovers and shot clock violations.
Our defense was good at times but to give up 35 free throws and our offense only get 12 free throws is tough to overcome.
We actually matched them in rebounds 29 - 29.
They had 5 blocks and we had 0.
We had 15 assists and they had 9.
We went 8/28 from 3 and they went 2/12 (thank goodness).

All that being said, wins are how a program is ultimately measured but as a fan, I do feel a bit more encouraged after this game as compared to a week ago. Hopefully they continue to work on the things within their control and keep hustling. Go Illini!:shield:

just frustrating to watch us on offense (passing the ball around aimlessly and throwing up a prayer at the buzzer on too many possessions

Jordan and Nichols. If we were getting solid play from those two, this would be a different season.

Hustle and offensive sets/pull ups/short 2pt were better in the first half...then well we know what happens...moral victories cannot be made when being 4-10. Keep hustling, mixing up lineups were better. Simple play against zone happened to many times...have to adjust as coaches quicker.

From a defensive standpoint...the last 3-4 minutes of the game should be the lesson from now on...the whole game at this pace or sit. Play the young legs, Griffin gets either some of Jordan some of Kippers of both mintues. Kane gets to play 5 with Giorgi up top, and Ayo plays 1 with Frazier off screens for quick 3's as he is the only one with a quick jumper to shoot.

If you are going to bring Kipper off the bench until he figures it out, he is going to be on the bench for a really long time. To be good at this game at this level you've got to want it. I don't think this game is really that important to Kipper. We see that occasional glimmer and we hope "This is it" only to be disappointed again. He is now half way through his fourth year and what kind of improvement have we seen. I think we will see kippers minutes slowly go down and DW and TJ minutes increase.

I liked the effort, battled til the end. But until we figure stuff out, as a team and individually, we'll continue to be our own worst enemy.
You have to appreciate the Freshman tonight and liked offense early. 38 points from freshman and AG with 4 boards in 7 minutes. I liked what we saw from these young guys.....the reps in games like this will pay off in future. They performed well at times against a top 25 team (aside from several stupid turnovers)

This +1000

I was a BU guy as well until the last 7 minutes of the Mizzou game. Took me that long to realize that these kids are expected to play like robots on the offensive end and if they make one mistake they’re getting subbed out. They know this and you can see it in their face and in their body language immediately. This offense is terrible. I don’t care who the personnel is on the court. Kipper needs to come off the bench and AG/TJ need most of his minutes. Get Giorgi the ball down low and spread the floor. He went for 18/7 tonight and I think we missed him 4 or 5 other times Howard was behind him. Get it to him early and let him work. TF, Ayo and AJ will get more open 3’s if Giorgi becomes an established presence. Just not enough MEANINGFUL ball movement.

BU needs to put the kids in a system that they can have more freedom in and just let them play. You see little glimpses of confidence and the kids having fun and as soon as they make a mistake the entire team, minus Giorgi, just looks deflated as they await the wrath of BU. It was hard for me to get excited down 9 with 3:36 left because the team I was watching didn’t even look like they were pumped to be back in the game.

Good fight, but in the end was as expected. No surprise.

However I don't get all the friction toward Kipper. Certainly has not found his groove. Positionless or not, he's being played as a 6'6" back up center. Thats a tough role for him. He's at a disadvantage on defense every time down the court. He's really an undersized 4 or a beefy 3... but not a 5. He's clearly in a rut - trying too hard and fouling out. I'm rooting for the kid. I'd rather see Samba and GB (only) rotate in for each other at the 5 and he go fill a different role...score 6-8 points and and clear 8-10 boards vs other forwards. I think we need to adjust expectations for him.

Regarding Kane, there is some chatter that he is academically ineligible. Take it with a grain of salt.
