You guys that bash Bardo just want some lame homer that sees everything the way you do? GMAB.

He is obviously trying to be impartial despite being one of the starters on our greatest team ever. Think about it.

And you are completely wrong on the ADLR play.......DLR had him hooked and they went down together. It was clear on the replay. The PSU guy didn't drag him down.

They definitely both had arms locked. Think that’s why they didn’t call hook and hold on that play. Would have had to call it on both of them.

Those calls make absolutely no sense together. I don’t see how it can be a foul on Feliz and be a flagrant on the PSU player. Has to be one or the other. Counting the basket that didn’t go in made the whole thing more ridiculous.

That’s how the rules are written. You can’t overturn a foul call. However you can assess a flagrant/technical that might have been missed.

The problem in the reffing was calling it a shooting foul. The foul happened well before he shot the ball and well after he decked Feliz. I also notice the guy may have taunted Feliz once he was laying on the court, although you can't see it in this clip.

May be a new record but I think they called 3 things wrong on one foul. This one needs to go in the hall of fame.

We shouldn’t view any team as “weak”. We can’t afford to.

On a side note, I want to really applaud Pat Chambers. Here’s a guy that most people assumed would be getting fired at the end of the year. He had his guys ready to play today, on the road. And more than anything, I love that he played his frosh heavy early in the year and let them take their lumps and learn. I wonder what we’d look like if we’d have done the same for our frosh like Griffin, Jones, and Kane. Yes, Kane. Because we get so little from DLR and he was a liability today (and many other days). I would have loved to see those guys get more chances.
Could have used some rim protection today - not sure what ADLR did for us other than get one rebound off of one of our free throws.

I definitely think its fair to say, he even said something about you will only seeing him in a orange n blue tie today(that's kinda silly) and that pat chambers told him to be neutral before the game. I just started noticing it this year, not just him being bias against us but being just plain wrong a lot of the time

Why can’t some of those drives into the lane for circus shots end up as kick outs to AJ for three...I think he was 3-3 today and we made no effort to get him looks

Yeah I saw at least 4 instances where he looked absolutely lonely in the corner waiting for the pass that wasn't coming. Nobody within 15 feet of him.

I was just starting to calm down...then I come here and see this. And then PSU player coming in signaling the "And 1" is probably what convinced the ref to say it went in. He was just making stuff up as he went along. awful.

Bardo did crack me up when fans were booing the refs and someone right behind him yelled "open your eyes ref, you're missing a helluva game" and Bardo said fans are letting the refs know how much they appreciate their hard work. Or something like that. Unfortunately, that was the only highlight I can remember.

There may be something to this as he apparently didnt give Illinois permission to use his likeness for a bobblehead.
Also in town for Homecoming were 89ers Steve Bardo and Ryan Baker. Bardo relayed the story of his Bobblehead mishap. He was in Atlanta working on a non-sports TV production (cooking) and missed the deadline for signing his release. Hence, no Steve Bardo Bobblehead.

Over the years, I have rarely seen us do well in games with early start times against those Eastern Time Zone teams who wake up an hour earlier. Sluggishness seems common, regardless of the coach or the year. I never like this situation.

Walking out of the game, first thing I pointed to was Underwoods PSU preview yesterday where he said they would do their shoot around last night due to the early start. At the time, he stated we had done that before.

My first thought today was, based on a lack of energy and our obvious shooting woes was, whoops!

Props to PSU, good team who brought it today!

True. Plus how can the PSU player commit a flagrant foul ON THE FLOOR and then "make the basket". Doesn't a foul on the floor sort of stop the play? Not to mention that the ball didn't even go in. I just don't get that.

Just got back from game. Key points for me:. They had two physical players on court at all times and we only had one. We were overpowered. We should have played zone.. could not contain dribble... they sent blockers to the rim after high screen..Rams could have used those guys. Hard to play one big and 4 guards vs them

Basically the 'genius' ref called:
1. Foul on Feliz in the act of shooting
2. The basket was 'good' cause, well, none of the 3 refs on the floor were actually doing their job and paying attention - so they took the word of a PSU player
3. After review - it was determined that it was an F1 on the PSU player
4. You can't / don't take away the original foul call - regardless of how bad the call was (must be embarrassing to have to go over and see how badly you screwed that up)
5. For some reason, during the review - NONE of the refs thought it was necessary to review whether or not the shot went in - so basket good, foul on Feliz, and 1 free throw awarded
6. Wait, someone, somewhere pointed out that the shot didn't go in - so refs have to go back and review that minor detail
7. 'Gee, upon further review, we screwed that up too', 1 more FT for the PSU player ('our bad') because he was in the act of shooting (can't change that either)
8. All 3 refs should really be looking for a rock to crawl under at this point - cause you really have to be trying hard to be that incompetent

Net is, even if they did call a foul on Feliz, it should have been on the floor, no FTs for PSU and F1 on PSU after review - FTs for us, and the ball.

Just dont quite have the athletes to carry us when the shots aren't falling. Need to be able to create off the dribble and we dont have anyone who does that effectively. AD is getting there and Feliz is good at it but he's too short to finish. Damontes pops used to put the team on his back and penetrate the lane at will in crunch time.

We were due for a bad performance this was it. Didn't hit the tough shots or routine ones. Giorgi and Trent missed shots they routinely hit. To many I'll advised shots as well. Not enough open looks for AJ Jordan.

But PSU deserves credit for playing their bigs and playing us tough. PSU overall handled our pressure.

I also saw a quote of BU telling the players, "It's an 11am start, advantage us." Seemed weird when I heard it, but didn't seem like that big of a deal. Now that I think about it some more, why would a coach ever tell players that they have an advantage in anything other than effort, hustle, desire? Bet that's what Chambers told his team.

PSU brought the energy and game plans...Kudo to Chambers and the players for toughness. ILLINI faltered when Trent didn't bail us out, Ayo was in foul trouble, Giorgi was missing some bunnies and some 50/50's he/team normally get. AJ was the hot hand without being fed enough, and Dre was the player consistantly taking it to the defense and making them foul and get uneven on the defensive end. Otherwise, team due for a bad outing, just a shame it had to show up on this day with our former glory team/coaches on hand.

Went to the game. Haven't seen the SFC that full in long time. The crowd was on the edge of exploding, the boys just couldn't come up with a big shot to take a lead or tie.

On a sadder note, Lou did not look to good. Henson that is. Boy he's one tough dude to show up to these events.
