Were those players only known for their shooting prowess ahead of transferring? I severely doubt it. I believe what the debate is about here is whether strictly shooting % tends to translate. And - at least for Illinois - when we recruit transfers expecting sharpshooters, it doesn't work and they almost never have other qualities to fall back on.

OK then, Feliz was a JUCO transfer who shot well there and shot over 45% for us. Anyway, everyone is different, so trying to extrapolate from prior situations is problematic at best. We have good coaches, hopefully that get the right guy for our situation.

And if Griffin doesn't show a marked improvement many will lose faith that he'll become a scorer.

I understand those that want to believe that an offensive turn around is on the way for Williams. But is it really hard to understand the flip side that some people don't have much confidence that it's on the way?

Griffin is going to be just fine. He needs to play.

I just think its funny that people are saying transfers have worked out so, so or worse, therefore don't sign transfers, or at least implying that we shouldn't sign transfers.

In regards to transfers, the #1 thing to remember is, there is a reason they are transferring. Knowing that reason before evaluating them is first step. Then evaluate these three things in sequence:

1) Can they defend/rebound
2) Do they fit a position of need (you are what you can guard)
3) Will they work in the offensive & defensive schemes you implement

If they check all of those three boxes, evaluate character, offensive ability, etc. If they don't check the first three boxes, move on to the next prospect.

Article in the Dallas Morning news today about Texas Tech and their theory about being the oldest team = the best team. They want junior college transfers in their program because that translates to success on the court. They will take as many as they can get.

This is not an accurate portrayal of their recruiting approach.

I hope you don't think that's my position, because it isn't.

Kofi needs some coaching, but from what I see, Orlando and Fletch could turn this dude into a monster!

Juiston from UNLV was a recruit for us right? I feel like I remember the name, maybe someone we got in on late?

He also had 4 blocks I think. Also altered several shots. With some coaching and conditioning he should be a force by his sophomore year.I hope people are patient and don't expect too much right away though.

Would Rich McBride be a good comp for Allan Griffin? If he can be like McBride I would be thrilled

i think rich came in with a body ready to play whereas Alan has some work to do there. Rich was probably a much better shooter as well.

Really doesn't appear to me that they try to involve him in the offense. Short passes when teammate is trapped or offensive rebounds seem to be his involvement. Mostly the C Anthony show. Similar to Giorgi in HS as he was the fourth or fifth option. Looks like a major upgrade physically but a lot to learn.

I think Allan can be as good of shooter as Rich. Allan has a very fundamentally sound shooting form

McBride led the B!G in three's with 83 in 2005-2006 his Junior year.
