I know this is good. But your first comment was, well let's not get too excited because we are likely to not win 6 games and the coaching staff is going to get fired so let's hope we can keep these commitments here.

5 wins and this staff stays with a good recruiting class, as long as there are not any 63-0 disasters again. Akron, UConn, EMU, Rutgers, and then one of Purdue or NU or Minny gets us there. It is also not out of the realm of possibilities to compete with Wisconsin for a win, given a disappointing season last year.

Always good to get this kind of commits, but the idea that we are starting to lock down Chicago and StL is very encouraging. If Lovie can get his pick in those areas, and throw in Indy (much better HS football in Indiana than when they were sending us Kevin Hardy and Ken Dilger), and plug the holes with the guys from Texas, Florida and Cali, we will be rolling.

Ran into someone here in the DC area that saw me wearing an Illinois shirt: His first question was “how you feeling about Lovie?” I told him that no one is ever going to argue against Lovie’s character...period. And that, that alone, will result in a good amount of patience when other coaches would be searching for a new job. The guy said, even though he is Maryland fan, “I hope he brings you guys all the way back, he is a really good man.”

I want Lovie, for as long as he lasts, to be the guy who started to turn things around at Illinois, or is here when we blow up. He is a QUALITY human being.

Feels so good to have a day like today. It's been frustrating to feel like we are so close but couldn't get the commit. What a great weekend!

This was a wonderful start to potentially a great recruiting class. There are some here who are " doubting Thomas's" who can not see a bowl year with the 2019 schedule, with a good start , and a defense that will be better, LOVIE WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE, HE KNOWS DEFENSE, it will NOT remain 5 places from the worst defense in the country in 2019 !!!!!!! Quarterback could end up dramatically different this Fall then what we have this Spring.... We will be competitive with any team on the schedule.
Back to recruting: We have a group of coaches now who have made very good contacts in Florida. Texas, St. Louis and now better Illinois city league schools. When did we ever have 40 top prospects show up for a Spring practice, NEVER, and I have followed Illinois football since 1955 !!! that is 64 years,,,,
Even Zook never did that. One last point , we have a terrific AD WHO HAS DONE SOME REALLY FINE THINGS SINCE HIRED. Our monied Alumni support him and he also supports our coaches with improving facilities and is an asset also in recruiting student athletes himself. THE TIMES THEY ARE CHANGING!!!!

Ooooooh.... [insert It's Happening Ron Paul gif here, I'm too lazy].

FYI Cooper is currently rated higher in the 2020 class than either Beason or IW were in the 2019 class.

2019
Beason: #99 247Composite, #133 247Sports
Williams: #116 247Composite, #320 247Sports

2020
Cooper: #63 247Composite, #125 247Sports
Henning: #76 247Composite, #126 247Sports

Either of these guys in 2020 would be huge.

respect my decision™
Cooper & Thompson would be a pretty good WR haul, amirite? Might as well throw Henning in too.

I would really like to know what are chances are with Antonio Johnson out of East St. Louis. Werner has mentioned multiple times that he saw him lock Marcus Washington down when they played against each other. I am sure he is going to say all the right stuff, but do we REALLY have a shot at him?
