One of these things is not like the other:
"Because of this setup, NFL contracts almost always include the right to cut a player before the beginning of a season. If a player is cut, his salary for the remainder of his contract is neither paid nor counted against the salary cap for that team. A highly sought-after player signing a long-term contract will usually receive a signing bonus, thus providing him with financial security even if he is cut before the end of his contract."

Not to mention, the NHL requires teams to take on part of the salary cap hit for players that retire during a contract. That's why you see teams deal guys that are "retired", just not officially. How stupid are the people running that league?

Hawks jump from 12th to 3rd in the draft. Unreal!
Unfortunately it is a 2 prospect draft. Hopefully they can package it for a top 4 defenseman

Turcotte, Byram or Pods is massively, massively better than what we were getting. And who knows? Maybe the wing heavy Rangers take Byram and Kakko falls to the Hawks. Lots of great options here.

Don't forget Cozens. I wouldn't be surprised if they took him at #3. Or Dach. But yeah, something strange could happen where one of the top two guys falls.

Just a few notes I thought were interesting about Patrick Kane-Its hard to believe that next year will be his thirteenth in the league. Remarkable that he would have his highest point total in his twelfth year, and also that he has only missed two games in the last four seasons. Most of you probably saw that he passed up Steve Larmer for fourth all-time leading scorer in Hawks history this year. With 938 points is only 62 away from 1,000 and should surpass that easily next season if healthy.

He's certainly on the Mt Rushmore of American players, but I can think of a few others-Madano, Chelios, Housley, and Roenick-that were pretty damned great too. Kane looks like the type that will play 20 years or so too.

How many cups do those players have? Roenick was 0fer correct?
Modano had 1 with the Stars. Chelios had 3, 1 with the Habs and 2 late career with the Wings. Housely was 0-fer with Roenick.
Comparing Kane to the defensemen is kind of apples and oranges, but I’d take Kane’s first 13 years plus his 5+ future years over both Roenick and Modano.
Other all-time great US players, Brian Leetch (who was better than Housely and you could make a case for being better than Chelios), Keith Tkachuk, Doug Weight and Pat LaFontaine.
If it weren’t for injuries, LaFontaine would be the no doubt best. From about ‘87 to ‘93, he was completely unstoppable. He retired at 32.
