So should Dan give us current posters like a gold border around our profile pic to signify our seats on the wagon?

Don't need or want recognition. But I saw every play and second of the Iowa 63-0 loss. I want to remember that when we start returning favors.

I have been an illini fan since birth.. will be a fan until death do us part.. I love this school.... I was actually recruited by coach zook and I have to say zook was a good man.. he took time to call the players he wanted multiple times a week....and he made you feel wanted.... when you are a younge wide eyed recruit with aspirations of playing college ball and Hope's and dreams of nfl playing time that makes all the difference in the world.. you want to feel wanted, needed.... that's exactly what I feel lovie is finally realizing.... such an exciting time to be a fan... I do need someone to answer one question I have been trying to find the QB " tate " everyone is hoping for who exactly is he and what school does he play for .... pleassse help me out

Khalil Tate - Arizona. RSmith was his OC there.

This team could really use AJ Bush this year. Khalil is a better athlete and better QB than AJ. It would be pretty awesome if we got him

First off, Tate has to graduate. Supposedly, he's on track to graduate this summer.

Assuming he graduates, I'd put the odds of him transferring to us at 50-50. But don't ask me how I arrived at that number. #notaninsider

If Tate were to graduate in the summer and transfer, going to UI would make the most sense. The biggest reasons, of course - He knows Smith, had big success with Smith, and he would adjust easier and not have to learn a whole new offense. And then, the fact that we now have a pretty solid group of receivers, great backs, and a strong line.

Agreed. If he graduates and decides to transfer, Illinois would be the odds on favorite of the destination due to all the factors you listed above. I would definitely put the odds higher than @Joel Goodson, despite my sarcastic comment above.

I love the trends in recruiting but Lovie has to prove this year that his defense can work at this level. if it cant, we've gone way too far down the rat hole to come back. I'm not sure that he has the athletes and natural football talent to do it. If it doesn't work, I'm also not sure we can hire a defensive coordinator next year and salvage what we've built. Man I hope I'm wrong.

We have more athletic and more talented players at almost every position than what Beckman ever had, except maybe QB. The bulk of our defense will be upperclassmen this year, which is a huge deal. I'm cautiously optimistic. Even if Lovie doesn't work, he's setting us up for long-term success with the recruits he's getting.

Good news, you're wrong. Also good news, you get to see it work with your own eyes this fall. The athletes to make it work will be all over the field.

My view on this is pretty consistent, which is that 87.3% of the posters here don't post anymore, because combining both sports we've been the single worst Power Five school in the country over the last 11 years, and most people just aren't interested in that kind of drudgery and humiliation.

I'm optimistic we can break out of that next school year, in both sports really. But when we do (and *eventually* we will, one way or another), the change in the conversation is going to be defined not by all us longtime gluttons for punishment changing our tunes or admitting we were wrong or whatever, but by the flood of new voices as Illini Nation awakens from its hibernation.

So, Gritty, during last football season you were prepared to fire Lovie. This appears to be you changing your tone and now thinking Lovie CAN be the guy. No?

I know your overarching theme was you wished IL success, just didn’t believe Lovie could be the leader to get them there...

I can't speak for Gritty, but I'll admit I wanted a change made after last season. The losses and complete lack of improvement were glaringly bad. I'm also never gonna stop cheering for my team. And I really hope it works with Lovie, now that he's been extended and everything. Speaking critically of a team is not the same as "hating." It's expressing concern, and most times it's very realistic and warranted.

But really this isn't an appropriate topic inside the recruiting thread. In terms of moving forward with regards to recruiting, this class could not have started much better than what we're seeing. If this momentum continues, Lovie needs to find a way to get us to 6 wins and then we're really rolling, and anything anyone thought after last season will be a thing of the past.

I supported Lovie's retention and in particular I thought the no-added-buyout extension was a very smart way to do it.

Having said that, I wouldn't have been outraged if Whitman had let Lovie go either. It was a tough call. We have been just completely terrible in each of Lovie's three seasons here, below any reasonable level of expectations throughout. But this year's team has the roster we made the decision to build towards a couple of years ago, so all things considered I thought taking one more shot at it was a better decision than rolling the dice in the market.

No matter how bad it ever gets with any coach, there is always a chance that winning is on the horizon. There is always also a chance that winning is just your next coaching hire away. The question is always which avenue offers the better chance of future success. That's the calculation an AD has to make, and there are a million different factors that go into it.

By the way, to the "roster we've been building towards" point:
