2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs

I thought they were playing "Mr. Game 7, Justin Williams" up a little too much tonight. Then he is the primary assist on the game winning goal.

What an amazing first round, but, apologies to the St. Louis types here......all the interesting teams are gone from this bracket.

Yeah, (I should have referenced the major penalty rather than the game misconduct) I have a hard time going with the idea of reviewing whether penalties occurred, but reviewing the severity could be a possibility. My fear would be that as soon as you open the door for one instance of reviewing penalties it will lead to an ever-growing chorus for expanded review of penalties. It's tough, you want to get it right but at what cost to the aesthetics of the game?

I would hope they use the college football model for targeting. I remember a few years ago that it was an on field call only, which had many conferences apologizing that the call was wrong. So now all targeting in CFB is being reviewed. Just do the same for the NHL on major penalties. How many 5 minutes majors are there in the NHL?

Wrong! The Blues not withstanding.

The Canadian teams and Tampa were the interesting storylines, and maybe Vegas to a lesser extent, the Pens and Caps have the marquee stars of the league, none of that remains.

Imagine a final four of Dallas, San Jose, Carolina and Columbus. That would be a ratings disaster. I'm sure they wanted Pens/Caps and Leafs/Lightning really bad.

I guess the best case scenario at this point is for Boston and St. Louis to keep winning?

Not so sure Dallas would be a ratings disaster. Dallas is the 4th largest market in the US & we just sold 60,000 tickets for the outdoor game on new years day, which the league said was the 2nd highest ticket sales at this earliest of a date in the game's history.

OK, if the context is ratings, I agree. FWIW, I don't care about a one year ratings dip. And I find plenty of very interesting stories with the remaining teams. The first round was epic. Can the remaining rounds live up to that? Highly doubt it. But I am going to watch!

Playoff hockey is always good. But it seemed like there were some epic clashes on the horizon and it really fizzled out.

There aren't many. If they could get it down to just a couple minutes of review every, I don't know, five games? I think that would work.

Blues lose 4-2. Give up their first empty net goal in the playoffs. Blues got killed by the sloppy play on the 4 on 4 in the 1st period. Here's to hoping they can recover on Monday in Dallas.

Nathan MacKinnon is the most electric player in the NHL on the most electric line in the NHL but ok, sure, let’s all live in 2016 for eternity.
