This is off-topic for the "Chicago Cubs 2019 Season" thread, but being a member of this community over the past few years has served as very important piece of self-care for me as I trudged through my doctoral program.

With that, I am very happy too share that today I successfully defended my dissertation, and I'd like to thank you lovely IL members for letting me talk baseball with you over the years. Go Cubs!

Congrats!

Hendricks has really been bad so far. If his location with his pitches is just a bit off or if he's not getting good movement, his stuff just gets pummeled.

Wonder if he changed the mix of his pitches? Whatever, it’s not working very well so far but he’s had slow starts in the past.

It looks to me like he's not getting the movement on his pitches that he used to for some reason.

Awesome!

we talked before about this, and I am so happy you can relax a bit as that stress is now over. My 24 year old son defended his masters thesis last month, and was able to finish a little early . He took a well deserved vacation to Vail two weeks ago with a bunch of his old Hins Central HS buddies, and he moved to Boston this past Thursday. He settled into an apt in Cambridge, 3 blocks north of MIT, with some guys he just met, and starts his job with WSP on Monday , doing exactly what he wanted to do, hydrogeology and environmental engineering.

It's going to be strange to watch guilt-free Cubs baseball on MLB.tv without worrying about so many various things tied to that project.

Congratulations to your son! I have to admit from that description of his field of study, it sounds like he has a much bigger brain than I. Wishing him a smooth adjustment and great success!

Chatwood with the best at bat of the 15 inning affair!

This team, warts and all, is fun to watch. Reminds me of the 2015 team a bit.

wow

with bases loaded, no outs, and Rizzo and then Baez coming up, I figured we had it made.

pfffffff

then Ryan in the 15th, and that hit by Ahmed that I thought was game over.

overall, they are fun to watch , in all honesty , but boy, we need KB and AR and Schwarbs to start to swing like they are supposed to

The eastern time zone is the worst for being a sports fan. Apparently some cool things happened last night in Seattle, including a monster Schwarber HR to take the lead in the 8th.

All things considered after the first month of the year, the Cubs are doing just fine. Not looking forward to Russell coming back soon though.

I will concede that they need some form of a lockdown reliever in order to finish the season strong and make a push in the playoffs.

Might not be that soon.

Congrats, likening it to the Cubs breaking their 100+ year championship drought, your achievement, sir, is no small feat. Well done!!

Lester/Hamels turning back the clock hard this season. Bryzzo slowly turning the corner. Contreras and Baez killing it. Heyward with another 3 hit night. Bullpen with a 180 from the first 10 games. Panic has subsided from the start of the season.

Big time series this weekend with the red hot Cards. It’s nice to see this rivalry back to it’s glory days.

Always nice to see Wacha come to town. The current Cub players (pitchers included) combine to OPS a nice 1.016 against him.

Rizzo has 20 hits in 44 at bats against him.

Pitching match-ups for this weekend's first Cardinals-Cubs series of the season at Wrigley:

Friday: Flaherty (3-1, 4.06) vs. Hendricks (1-4, 5.33)
Saturday: Wacha (2-0, 4.78) vs. Darvish (2-3, 5.02)
Sunday: Wainwright (3-2, 3.73) vs. Quintana (3-1, 3.48)

Cardinals have the pitching advantage today, coinflip tomorrow, and Cubs have it Sunday. Which means the games will go the exact opposite of those advantages, because baseball.

Should be fun!

Two red hot teams separated by 2.5 games in the division? Yes please.
