Illini Golf 2018-2019

With the Illini currently in 8th place, I'm looking for reasons to be optimistic.
Found it interesting that 8 of the 14 teams tee'ed off on hole #11. Not 10, 11.
While the other 6 started on #1.

Anyway, 6 of the top 8 teams are from the #11 tee, while only PSU and Illinois are from the #1 tee.
So, is the back nine that much easier than the front? Hope so, we need to move up.

Front 9 appears to be a lot more difficult than back 9.

The Illini did some rebounding, moving up to T2 after the first day.
By the way, I looked at the hole averages and was surprised to see that the sides are virtually equal.
The front played on average 2.24 strokes over par.
The back was 2.19 strokes over par.
Virtual tie. Just thought that was surprising, as this was not the case for us.

The 1st hole is just killing the leaders today.
Purdue, Illinois and Minnie have each had 4 of their 5 golfers play #1.
Purdue, +3
Illinois, +4
Minnie, +4

Yikes !

After a horrendous start by Purdue, Minny and Rutgers (all +11 or worse today), the Illini suddenly find themselves atop the leaderboard by three strokes! All this despite a +7 start. Chopra, Adrien and Gio are all within striking distance of the individual title as well. The Illini golf twitter feed is saying it's a gusty day out there, so that explains the carnage.

Figured it had to be a tough weather day, as the team scores are so much worse than yesterday.
That is across the board, no one is immune to these conditions.
Lots of guys shooting in the 80's
Illini in 2nd as I write this, with the day nearly done.

Edit: Impressively, Adrien Dumont de Chassart (wow, hate to fill out the standardized test grid for him!) birdies the 487 yard par 4 18th hole to pull us within 1 stroke, one player to go.

Illini tied for lead heading into last day.

Big day for Illini athletics tomorrow: Men's & Women's Tennis and Men's Golf all go for B1G titles.
Tennis gals gave Michigan a run for their money in their meeting earlier this year - losing 4-3. Men are capable of beating Ohio State. McNally had to cheat to beat Brown in their earlier match. Kavacevic is capable of beating Wolf but not if he plays like he did today.

Golf is anyone's guess. I think the poor weather favors us. Need Baumgarten to get his game together.

Kovacevic played well today vs. Penn State unlike yesterday vs. Purdue.

Early in play on Sunday, Illini are T1.
But looking at the Flourtown weather forecast shows rain and heavy rain for the next two hours.
Combined with 55 degree temps, its a mudder's day.
Bring it home for the 5th year in a row and 10th of the last 11 !!

Great to see Gio step up this weekend, currently -2 for the day, +6 for the tourney. Adrien is +5 for the weekend as well. Great showing for the Belgians!

Purdue pulls ahead by a shot, lets hope the boys can finish the round out strong and pull in another title
