Chicago Cubs 2019 Season

Old fashioned 7 out save from Cishek.

Theo better get some bullpen help quick or Cishek’s arm will fall of from overuse. He seems like the only guy Maddon trusts right now.

Wished it didn't have to resort to a walk-off, but I'll gladly take it! Q looked great again.

It's becoming more and more obvious that the BP in going to make or break this season. Whatever's wrong with Carl Edwards probably isn't going to be fixed at the big club. The BP has been pretty darn good other than him as of late, but Strop really needs to step up into that closers role when he's healthy if this teams going to go far.

I don't see Theo getting Kimbrel, but I think he's pretty much the missing piece on this team, at least someone like him.

Cishek has been fantastic. I’d hate to see where this team would be without him.

Brach, Chatwood, and Kintzler have all significantly out-performed their peripherals. Some of that is because they are all ground ball pitchers - extreme ground ball pitchers in the cases of Chatwood and Kintzler - and play in front of a really good Cubs infield. But some of that is also because they’ve gotten lucky. There’s a significant chance that they’re not going to be as good as they’ve been over the rest of the season.

Monty has been great in limited uses since coming back from the IL.

Kyle Ryan is a back end guy that shouldn’t be getting as many innings as he has.

Maddon has zero trust in Cedeno, letting him get only 6 outs in 5 appearances. He’s walked 3 guys to only 1 K. So Maddon’s distrust is probably earned.

Edwards is a walking disaster.

A few more outings like that and I can go back to bragging about how I called the Chatwood signing.

I was hopped on that bandwagon, too. At the time, the signing had good optics. Unfortunately the results just haven't been there so far. The turnaround this year so far is encouraging though!

Theo & Ricketts must see that the WS window is at least "open" for this team.

Failure to make an effort to get Kimbrel must mean they have some valid trade options in the works. I hate to see them give up much for a rent a player ala Chapman. If you are the owner of the Cubs , Red Sox, Yankees or Dodgers you cant be afraid to spend money when to time is right, or you are in the wrong business . Imagine being 34-13 right now vs 29-18, with a 7 game lead, as not having a legit shut down closer has cost us at least 5 games so far, maybe 6 or 7.

I think everyone at this point is just waiting for the draft to pass so there's no comp pick given up for signing Kimbrel. It'll be interesting to see what sort of contract he gets on June 4.

10 blown saves in 49 games.

On pace for 33 on the year. I checked as far back as 1990 and the Cubs have never had that many in a season.

19 total last year. 19 in 2017, too. 15 in 2016. 19 in 2015.

Cubbies are 1-3 against the reds so far. Let’s hope we can win this series and turn it around.

Gotta beat the bottom feeders.

Bullpen problems rearing its ugly head again this week-it will be tough to contend with this group as the season goes on. You have to have a proven closer.

There appears to be a littlr clarity as to Zobrist's leave of absence.

"Julianna Zobrist’s court documents don’t disclose a reason for the divorce, but Ben Zobrist’s court filing is a little more specific about why the couple is splitting.
Ben Zobrist’s petition says his wife “has been guilty of inappropriate marital conduct which render further cohabitation impossible.”

I wouldn’t read anything into that.

Tennessee does not have “no fault” divorce when there is a property or child custody dispute. You have to cite grounds beyond “we just don’t like each other anymore.” The “inappropriate marital conduct” phrase is purposefully vague legalese used to give grounds for a divorce filing without actually saying something bad about your soon-to-be-ex.

You make a good point with that. My post seemed to be insinuating something with that quote.

My overall point was that the divorce itself, as opposed to the reasoning why, was likely the reason for his leave of absence.

Hendricks is my favorite. About time Joe didn't pull him early.

Off day tomorrow before a road trip to St. Louis this weekend.

Also of note, there was very scary moment early in the game following a line-drive foul ball to that stands off the bat of Almora. A young girl was struck and taken to the hospital. Hoping she is okay. Almora was noticeably shaken; I believe he has a daughter around that age.
