This hurts, this stings. But Illini women's program is on the rise. Best performance of BIG schools. But to finish a lousy few shots out of match play, man. Still very, very fine.

What a dope I am. Illini still have a chance? It appears so. Thought it was over. Stop the presses! Dewey beats Truman!

Hope City. Go ILLINI!

Because of the compressed schedule and the need for 36 holes of match play today, they won't be holding a playoff if Illinois and Auburn tie at +41. They'd use a tiebreaker that Auburn would win. So the Illini need Auburn to go +4 on the three remaining holes.

I imagine the two auburn women had a rough night of sleep knowing it's all on them. Also, isn't the 9th hole the pretty tough one?

Wow! How about that finish! So close and yet so far.
Can't wait for next season to start for the ladies of the O&B!!

It's heartbreaking to come so close to making match play and a chance for a national championship, but it was still easily the greatest season in Illinois Women's Golf history. They won three tournaments in the Fall, finished 2nd at Big Tens, qualified out of their regional for the first time ever, and then wrapped it all up with a top-10 finish at nationals.

Now's the time: It hurts, it stings.

But better to be so very close to match play than to be an also-ran.

Wish Illini had finished ahead of Purdue.

Very proud of this Illini team.

Now GO ILLINI men!

I tend to think the opposite. They were probaly relieved for the tourney to be delayed yesterday. The pressure yesterday was probably building up for them both knowing how they were playing and watching their lead slip away. The delay gave them the rest of the day/night to regain their composure, get settled down, let their coaches calm them down, etc.

With all due respect, there is too much analysis/paralysis on Illini fora.

Worked out that way - of course I had was speculating/hoping the other would occur. Kudos to the ladies for going out and pulling it off either way. To play 1 or 2 holes with all on the line is not simple. Perhaps the weather was better today as well and that helped. In any event - at +41 - we were so far off the other teams I don't think we'd be anywhere near contention had we made it - but it would have been nice to get there to see.

You are probably right but it is hard to predict match play results based on stroke play results. Two different animals. A great season for the ladies regardless of results yesterday. Given that match play started at 8:00 this morning, I assume that our girls had to be dressed and at the course in the event that Auburn dropped the ball when finishing their round earlier today. Someone mentioned a tie breaker rule. Do you know if we held the advantage over Purdue who tied with us?

I do not know - i assume its the score of the 5th player vs the 5th on the other team???

To that end, Auburn, who finished 32 strokes behind Texas and had to clinch their spot starting at 6:45 a.m., knocked out the Longhorns in match play about 14 hours later.

Not a strong start for Illinois. Three teams worse than us with the afternoon teams still early in their rounds. Lots of teams to pass to make match play. Need more guys close to par. Two at +4, them three at about+8 won't get it done.

But coming off a great regional win, you might think Illini would be ready, score low.

We shall see. Hoping for the best. But Illini have dug themselves a very big divot right away.

'Tis golf.

Analysis/paralysis.
