I really want to know the backstory because size and highlights he look like a 4 star wide receiver. I think he just started playing football. But I can see him get some serious playing time this year

I 17 year old, out if school and very board so I did a little research and 2 thing really pop out 1 one was he quarterback is a 4 star committed to UNC so Illinois probably was watching highlights of quarterback and noticed him and he maybe just started playing wr because if you look up his name on Twitter and scroll down a little than it was a juco named trinity valley community college said he was apart of the team as a 6'4 190 defensive end

If he can catch the ball every time it is thrown in his direction, he’s got a job.

That's really interesting. Didn't realize that Malik Hornsby, who we offered, was the QB in the highlights as a lot of the balls were under thrown. That also makes me wonder why more D1 schools didn't notice him? Although if schools were looking at him as a DE then it makes sense that they probably didn't view him as a D1 prospect at that position. Thanks for the information.

His combination of speed/size is hard to find. His track performances verify that his speed is legit so this is about as good of a pick up as you can expect this late in the recruiting process.

My guess is the connection came through track. Maybe even cumby and/or beason. But you could be on to something. His film is lacking and most of it focuses on the ball, so play action stays on the qb. Can’t see a lot of his separation, moves, and even catches.

I think southside is right about the connection to Hornsby who we were recruiting at QB in this class. According to the updated 247 article, AHS did not even meet Campbell until December.

Also the article mentions that Hornsby wasn't even eligible until the 6th game so his team didn't even really have a QB until then.

With the December signing period, most schools are pretty much done with recruiting before the season starts so it makes sense to be that he wasn't on anyone's radar as a WR if he didn't even start producing at the position until half way through his Senior season. It still makes me wonder why FCS schools didn't even notice him but it seems like a pretty good pick up to me. He appears to have the floor of an ST guy at least.

How could he possibly be stealth?

"Campbell had 21 receptions for 545 yards and seven touchdowns, helping lead Fort Bend Marshall to a Texas 5A D2 state runner-up finish. He also ran track and ran an 11.06-second 100-meter dash this spring."
Mind you from the story I read he put those numbers up without having a quarterback until 4 or 5 weeks into the season.
The offense they ran before malik's transfer was approved was strictly run and shot screens, then midway through the season a 4 star QB was finally ruled eligible and immediately started throwing the ball. So his 21 for 545 a 7 is very impressive since he had a few games where he never touched the ball... so putting up the numbers in half of a season and winning a championship makes him very impressive and electric.
I cant wait to see him play with Isaiah....
Seems like a very nice pickup for us.

Those are good numbers and his speed and height make him rare. I still don’t understand why coaches didn’t see a track superstar at 6’4 or 6’5 that played football for a team that played in the Texas 5a state championship game. None of it makes sense

It definitely doesn't. Great illustration of how kids can slip through the recruiting rankings and that coaching staffs frequently aren't paying attention to kids who aren't on the grid.

Seems a little light for a defensive end.

I saw Dalevon Campbell run at a track meet about a month ago. He was on a 4x100 team that ran a 39.99. I don’t know how much you guys know about track, but in a time like that, the guy coming out of the blocks would be the slowest and have to run like a 10.5. That means everyone else is averaging like a 9.8 100m split. He also runs like a low 21 200 which is legit. Based on measurables alone we have ourselves a diamond. If he can catch and run good routes we might have a draft pick.

FIFY.

This speed and height is nfl caliber. Add hands and route running, he is easily a draft pick.

From what I have read. He basically wins every jump ball and is great at making adjustments. I wonder how that changes against good defenders. But talk about him and beason going at it every day, they will both improve tremendously

He’s not exactly playing against bad defenders where he is. Dallas and Houston football(probably Athletics in general) are like 1a/1b
