This is kind of random and irrelevant, but talking to my friend who says Kevo Wesley was a lock until Butkus left, not gonna go here anymore. My friend is also an O-Line recruit and says most O-Line kids are afraid to go here because of the lack of depth on the O-Line.

Wouldn't the lack of depth be a selling point for us? I mean there's a pretty clear path to being on the two-deep in 2021 for almost any 2020 OL recruit.

Also, the timing of Kevo being a "lock" until Butkus left just doesn't make sense from the outside looking in. He didn't get offered by us until he visited in February when McClain was the OL coach and he visited us again in April. I'm not sure how he was ever a lock for us?

Makes no sense (not directed at you).

I told my friend that doesn’t make sense either but he said a lot of freshman O-Line don’t want to play that early on for a weak O-Line and I countered it gives exposure to the league, but it must be something that recruits are saying that I’m not.

I wouldn't argue with that method of thinking if that was the case. If it is an issue for some, then how Richie P. performs this year becomes more of a long term issue. If he is successful, it would show the recruits we can bring in productive transfers until the depth is built back up.

Thanks for the info. I wonder how Butkus cios influence him

I believe we will be able to effectively fill our o line with transfers. It’s not ideal, but it is what we will do. At this point we have talent that Has bought into the system, we will use transfers for stop gap measures and it will work fine.

We still need at least 3 OL prospects this class. Stop gags are just that. We can't count on being successful counting on transfers to come every year. With camp season picking up, hopefully that notion of "not enough depth" changes or that the guys we get don't care.

We will pick up some OL recruits this year and we will use transfers. That is the way recruiting works. You fill the team with what you need. Even with 3 solid recruits, we will also be on the transfer market because OL recruits can be hard to predict.

Skill position HS players seem to go where they can play soon. Transfer players leave because they weren't playing, and want to play right away. Now we read here that offensive linemen want to stay on the sidelines as freshmen, and ... uh, take mental reps?

Good to hear that we've made the offer to Spraggins! A couple of weeks ago like was being considered & maybe we'd already have him locked in, now he's blowing up. I think we have a great shot though & with each of the ESL kids. Hopefully, we can make the push that will wrap them up soon, especially for Antonio Johnson of course!

Agreed. Sounds like he had a great day at the Lindenwood camp. He was someone I was hoping we'd offer anyway as he performed well as other showcases this Spring. Should be a solid interior lineman at the next level.

I also like the offer the Lukas Van Ness. Sounds like he can a great day at the Lindenwood camp as well.

Both these guys have been on campus at least once so lets get them on campus again in the next few weeks and try to lock them down.

Tried to email Bobby Roundtree at edu.com; no luck. But my prayers are for him. Fight, you Fighting Illini!

Again, what are chances of landing this Michigan QB transfer?

Another question: do current players, recruits visit these forums?
Always good to see Fleck get some negative press.

Fleck sucks.

Jerry Kill’s Take on Fleck from February
From what I've gathered, he ain't well-respected right here in DeKalb City. Fleck, that is.

Jeremy Werner said on his show today that Joe Moore was also wearing an Illini hoodie at the event but his coach told him to take it off so that people at the event would not see it and assume Illinois is the leader in his recruitment.

I don't want to get my hopes up here but Joe Moore would be an amazing get from Cardinal Ritter. Patterson and Clark did a great job in landing Okpala and Randolph in the last cycle so I do believe that they are putting us in the mix for Moore. Moore's dad played for the Bears, fwiw.

Moore is also close friends with Noah Arinze so if we're doing well with Moore then that certainly helps with Noah. However, if Noah actually has a committable offer from Oklahoma and they push for him then they will be tough to beat. Noah also just got an offer from Texas.

I'm not anywhere close to being an insider but I've heard that Illinois has a good shot at landing him. Have to see if he will take his visits to Bowling Green and Miami (OH), however.

Although I feel like we are in this one, Joe Moore's dad, Joe Moore, also played for Missouri and was inducted into the Missouri Football hall of Fame. I think we have a shot, and I am glad that he tried to wear a hoodie today. And, I don't want to get too excited about this one. But we have plenty to get excited about.
