RE: Dixon, bring on the QBs! As the QB position goes, so goes the team.

At 6'5" he has to be an NFL prospect. Good job by Lovie & Company.

I'd be curious to see what the blue chip ratio is for our roster. That is, what % of our players were 4* recruits or above?

For context, history has shown that you need at least a 50% BCR to win a national title. All the big boy programs usually bat above 50%. Alabama and Ohio State and the like are up in the 70-80% range. But, you'll have Wisconsins and TCUs and Michigan States who will make a run with a lesser BCR %. It happens.

I would imagine that the 2007 team (and some of the subsequent teams) was probably in the 20-30% range -- which is really good for a program like us. That's where we should ideally be. Bring in somewhere from 5-7 blue chip kids each year -- either via recruiting or transfer market.

As long as you collect the stats for the past 10 years I am fine with it.

Ah yes, of course. Hudl. The place where all recruit videos are posted. Ha.
I didn't watch a lot of them. But I didn't see any real runs that would make me think he has IWill type of speed and quickness. Seems like a young AJ Bush possibly?

He ran a 4.87 40 so he is more of a pro-style QB and not like IW or Bush at all.

He's actually the polar opposite of IW. IW was a 4 year starter at TCHS who put up absurd numbers in High School yet was not highly thought of on the camp circuit.

Dixon hasn't done much in High School but wows people on the camp circuit with his measurables and arm strength.

Yeah that would be good to see, but tedious. It would be nice if 247 automatically did that, but problematic. I looked at the roster listed on the site and it still lists Lou Dorsey. Would definitely require some time just to get the average player rating and then for other teams for comparison. Forget about it.

With those QBs we should attract really good, talented receivers. And, perhaps even other position players.
That'd be awesome. Hopefully this makes it that much easier to land some top wide receivers in the next class. It would be cool if it had an impact on this class too

I like it! They are setting us up to have so many different looks. Running IW, pro style....defenses will be so confused!

Illinois and staff finally get a break with Dixon and what he brings.
This could really set up 2020 recruiting
Happy for this board who have been generally to negative
Sharp (the offensive tackle) had a lead football article in the Naples, Florida Daily News last week before his trip to C-U
Lovie is a honest, straight shooting coach, and his style is different than most college coaches. Parents know they can trust their sons with him. We on the board should learn to live with it. Enough preaching from the class of 1960...............

I'm hoping they will update their website. I also see they've included the 2019 freshmen class, but not their ratings.

However, if just looking at recruiting classes, it's not tedious when you already have the data in a spreadsheet!

For the last ten years, Illinois has had 9 recruits at or above 0.890 (which seems to be the 4* barrier) out of 247 recruits, which comes out to 3.6%. (This doesn't include transfers in or out, for all data in this post.)

I don't trust the 2004 numbers on 247's site, but 2005-2007, Illinois had 10 out of 61 recruits rated at or above 0.890 (16.4%).

The last two years has been 5 out of 42, or 11.9%.

Man, you gotta be really athletic and an impressive specimen of a high schooler if you can get rated a 4-star prospect and pull in offers from Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, and Illinois without even starting a high school game. Wow.
Expect his rating to get downgraded to 2 stars now that he has committed to Illinois. 😛

Good stuff, thanks.

It seems like the 2008-2009 teams were as talented as any we've had this century. Not only did they include the signature 2007 class with Benn and Martez Wilson, but it included the subsequent classes with Liuget, Nixon, Pocic, Hawthorne, Scheelhaase, etc. Obviously we didn't do much with that talent, but we had it.

Certainly unlikely to be Illini without much smoke here recently.

The bulk of new people he has followed on twitter recently are other 2020 Purdue commits, Jeff Brohm’s wife, and a spattering of track athletes & coaches.

He is *great* at track though. Part of me wonders with the way that tweet is written and by whom if he has found a way to make T&F work full time. Certainly would fit his stature better but the money/scholarships usually need to come through football. I’d rather see him take up that recent Arkansas offer than another in state kid lost to a comparable B10 program

hmmm, his stats show that he threw for five touchdowns last season. The second video shows about 7 or 8. One or two of those might be two point conversions. Perhaps some are from previous years?
Not all of those highlights are specifically his. Those are just Team highlights.
