"Gym at Ubben is packed with Power 5 coaches watching Jalen Bridges and Martice Mitchell go head to head. #Illini coaches Brad Underwood and Jamall Walker also in attendance."

We should post a sign outside Ubben that says "UIUC students, faculty and staff only" then recruit bouncers from a couple of campus town bars to check ID's at the door. Then we can live stream it to watch the Power 5 coaches lose their... shirt.

Anyone hear details about the NCAA event held at SFC last week? I stopped in Ubben one day when in town and they couldn't answer any questions because they said it was all run by the NCAA. Supposed to be a lot of recruits there with a wide variety of coaches. NCAA website said recruits were to invite themselves. I just wondered how that worked.

Lame-o-rama. Here's an Athletic ($) article about it: https://theathletic.com/1094683/201...ademy-lets-just-say-a-lot-of-work-lies-ahead/

There were a handful of high D1 players there, most notably Jalen Bridges and the 6' 10" kid from Bloom.

I think piper talked about some details here. Maybe not what you are looking for though.

Has decent numbers. Was NESCAC freshman of the year. MAY be a hidden gem.

As witnessed by my just now flurry of posts on the Illini Basketball 2019-2020 thread and what I am about to post here, I obviously have way too much time on my hands on this Sunday afternoon while I wait for my laundry to dry so I went through the Scholarship grid for 2020 and listed those scholarship offers who have already narrowed their lists and whose said lists do NOT include Illinois. Again, just something to do.

Hunter Dickinson C Purdue, Florida State, Louisville, Michigan, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Providence
Cam’Ron Fletcher SG UNC, Kentucky, Michigan State, Alabama, and Missouri
Walker Kessler C California, Michigan, North Carolina, Gonzaga, Auburn, and Duke
Jamari Sibley PF Iowa, Iowa State, Georgetown, Syracuse, Minnesota, Wake Forest, Marquette, Florida, Maryland, and South Carolina
Plus:
Karim Mane G rumored to go pro
Kyree Walker SF rumored to be going overseas instead of college

I can only think of 1 player, Duncan Robinson, to go from Division III to Division I and be on scholarship. Can you think of others??

Recent 24/7 article (Michigan lean) stipulates Burnett wanting fast paced system and other players will likely follow him to play alongside:

https://247sports.com/college/michi...o-says-Juwan-Howard-is-like-family-133950684/

Louisville, Fast Paced, athletes and Green, Christopher, Love all offered and mentioned as friends whom he could play with...Terry is committed.
Oregon, Half Court more imo, weaker conference Dante offered along with Burnett, no others found.
UCLA, Fast Paced again Weaker conference with Burnett, Green, Fletcher, Christopher all offered.
Stanford, Remove from list, no chance imo....
Alabama, Fast Paced, Fletcher, Bridges, Burnett, Christopher all offered.
Marquette, Little Slower, less National attention overall-Burnett and Fletcher only two offered with mentions in article.
Arkansas, Fast Paced, Christopher is only other one mentioned.
Arizona, Faster Paced, although Pac 12, weak conference-Green, Christopher, Love all offered
Wake Forest, No chance!
Auburn, Very fast paced, much like us, no friends mentioned are on offer list other than Burnett.
Illinois, Love, Fletcher, Burnett offered with a Chicago connection, not warm with any other imo though?
Michigan, Christopher, Burnett, only mentioned players offered, heavy lean with Howard though?

Whats all this mean, nothing really, slow Monday, alot of typing, however interesting to see the "I could play and may bring guys that want to play along with me" slant as it actually applies with offers. If all this is actually true, then UCLA may be in one huge haul....otherwise I actually like our chances and playing alongside Miller off the ball with Burnett on the ball, maybe we get lucky with another of his "friends"? Michigan might be our toughest competition however.

Transfer sit out rules apply to a D3 transfer to D1? How can that be. Does D3 even give athletic scholarships?

They do not offer scholarships but some schools do give some money to students to help with the cost of tuition.

The NCAA refers to these situations as a “recruited athlete” even if it is only a few thousand dollars and not a full ride.

From what I understand, if a player takes any money from the school at D3 then he/she must sit a year before being eligible at the D1 level. However, if they never took any money from their previous school then they should be able to be granted immediate eligibility.

Seems legit! (sorry, still a little salty after the Luke Ford fiasco & other dubious eligibility rulings)

From what I was told, his waiver was based around his mother who has epilepsy. She currently lives near the Las Vegas area after she moved there to be closer to Tillman in HS when he transferred to Findlay Prep.

NCAA granted immediate eligibility due to proximity to mother if he attended UNLV, and the fact that she was an immediate family member.
