From the article:
"The Fighting Illini depart Chicago's O'Hare airport on Sunday and after a connection in Miami will arrive in Milan on Monday, Aug. 5."

I would like to hear a rationale of this travel planning!

O'Hare has no A to B direct flight to Italy?
Then, who is being picked up in Miami???
Illini nation wants to know!!

I assume no TV for these games? And I assume WDWS will carry them all on the radio?

Does anybody know what of the above is correct?

Well they will learn a lot about chaos going to Italy in August. Great experience for the team, let's hope it turns out better than the last Euro trip!

Has Underwood previewed the tour? Curious if he's said much about what they're planning on doing. I assume it's as important to build morale and team cohesion as play some ball. As fans, we're more interested in the bball part :p It'd still be nice to hear they're getting a new life experience --new cultures can change your life.

Timing of the games will be a bit tough - starting pretty early in the trip. Lets just hope its a good experience but I am not sure we can draw much from these types of travel trips if they don't perform well. Let's just not damage any vehicles whilst there.

I am so glad I didnt make travel arrangements when the info first came because the final version is totally opposite. If I had booked this trip I would have been left hanging out to dry. It is unbelievable that the University doesnt care about fans wanting to go too.

Cut it out with all the negativity. Why are you complaining about something that doesn't even impact you? You didn't book a flight, you're not in a bad spot, and even if you had booked flights previously to/from Rome you'd still be completely fine.

A quick google search shows that a train ride from Rome to Milan on August 5th would cost you $65 US and would only take you 2H 55M (a similar driving time from some Chicago Suburbs to Champaign). Hotels can be found for cheap as well. Anyone that had wanted to book airfare in advance easily could have.

Only 9 scholarship players available for the trip.??
Assuming no Kane (transfer portal), no Kouma( not through clearing house), no Verdonk(reported injury), & take away the one open spot from 13 available and 9 would have been my guess...where you expecting something different or just trying to confirm the 9?

You can get anywhere at anytime if you want to. The point is why is it so fan unfriendly? With proper information from the Athletic Dept you would double or triple the fans that want to go.

I wrote in the Illini Basketball 2019-20 thread last Sunday a little about what I learned as to why it is difficult to schedule these games. I read the reason why in some article and unfortunately cannot find it again. But I wrote, "Apparently many teams are going over there. I don't know why Syracuse already has their schedule posted but with so many teams over there the next few weeks according to the article I read it is difficult to create a schedule any length of time in advance." And when I just now searched for that article I discovered there are five Big Ten teams going to Italy this August and one (Rutgers) going to France. Also, Illinois State is going not to mention all the other schools from other conferences. In addition, I think the article mentioned that players for the various Italian teams are just resuming their practices and schedules and there is uncertainty as to what Italian teams are even ready to play.

The schedule is 'Finalized' just one week before the games... And you expect someone (anyone ?) knows if the games will be televised or on the radio ???? LMAO... You're funny....

Yes, I do. If someone like WDWS radio was going to broadcast (I doubt they will) they will likely have already comitted to do it no matter where the schedule is in Italy. They would just be waiting for the details.

There is no direct flight from Chicago to any of the airports in Milan. I assume they are flying American and would rather connect in the states than in Europe somewhere.

The reason why I would go through Miami would be for the extra miles so that could be it too.
