This could be a year where a team outside the big 6 sneaks into the top 4. After week 1 it seems pretty clear that Liverpool and City are at the top. Then I think Spurs will be solidly in 3rd. But I could see Arsenal, United, and Chelsea dropping a lot of points. Arsenal and Chelsea have some injuries to work through. And I don't think the lopsided win for United really told the story. I wasn't impressed.

Wolves, Everton, and Leicester should be smelling blood in the water.

That would make this season more fun. I'll be keeping an eye on the wolves, who caught my attention last year.

Decided to follow the EPL for something to do before the basketball season starts. Decided to pick Wolves as my team. Solid showing against Leicester, but still room to grow.

i think every goal is reviewed too.

there's definitely room for improvement but it'll get better and smoother as the year goes on. for example, it took 98 seconds to rescind dendoncker's goal which many say (and i agree) is way too long.

18 of the stadiums will show the actual deciding replay for the local crowd. only exceptions are old trafford and anfield. does anyone know why those two stadiums won't? or maybe they technically can't?

Yeah those are the only 2 stadiums with no jumbotron.

I'll be paying them plenty of attention... but EPL has much better media coverage. Is there a Bundesliga thread?

Everton defeats Watford 1:0 in the Goodison opener for the Toffees. Bernard scored in the 10th minute and Everton held on as Watford had chances for a couple of equalizers against a home side that played a bit nervous at times.

Toffees return to action on Friday at Aston Villa.

And with this being the first home win of this season, this song echoed throughout Goodison:

Totally disagree. Can argue about the rule change (hand balls leading to a goal), but VAR virtually eradicates blown calls. And that is a very, very, very good thing.

From the PL 'VAR only intervenes in the course of a match when the officials have made a 'clear and obvious error' in one of four key areas.'

That call today was not clear and obvious to me. There is a difference between the letter of the law and the spirit.

You must either be joking or a complete homer. The ball bounced off his elbow and changed directions. Had that not occurred, it would not have fallen to Gabriel Jesus. The PL rule book has stated for years that a goal may not be scored or set-up by a hand ball. This was as clear as day.

It pretty clearly hit his hand. And it was definitely a key area, as it lead to a goal. If you want to blame something, blame the rule. VAR did it's job on this one.
