Didn't that answer your own question? Hamlin is here because Kouma isn't. Not because of Kalk.

Right but the original wording was ambiguous and could have also been read to imply that Kouma had something to do with Kalkbrenner eliminating us, which made no sense.

Yeah, if only he had landed some great players like Ayo and Kofi and found some unheralded gems like Giorgi...
Ayo and Kofi were great. He needs more of those guys.

Who was the tall white kid that had a bad attitude that a lot of people were enamored with but ended up going elsewhere. I cant remember his name, but have not seen it either since then.
Drew Timme?

I hope these guys work out, but Verdonk, Hamlin and Grandison seem like fall back plans...

I don't think Verdonk will dissappoint to say the least, Hamlin definately fall back., Grandison is an upperclassman seen a few more things and will at least add some stability to the wing position and help out on boards.

If he can average 1 of those per recruiting class and sprinkle in 1-2 Tevian/Griffins as well we will be doing just fine. His 2019-20 roster looks great, let’s see if he can coach now. I think with this roster he’s in his make it or the seat get hot time now (barring any major injury that could buy him another year to heat the seat up).

If we're knocking on the door or in the post season, which seems likely, he has at least 1more year. Kofi 2nd yr, Griffin and Tev 3rd yr, Frazier 4th if still here, GB 3rd, 2 6'6" snipers coming in 2nd yr in system, Verdonks 2nd, this sounds good to me, why change coaches. We do need 1 or 2 points though and a PF.

Seems Holyfield and several other transfers were preferred over Grandison.

Ideally he gets 2 top 75 guys per year.

The current roster looks like a tourney team for the next 2 seasons, but the goal should be consistent sweet 16 team.

Honestly, if you recruit well enough to make the tourney, then good coaching can get you to the S16. WHEN we make the tourney this year the world will see Underwood’s System and coaching on display which will hopefully spark a huge uptick in recruiting. From there, the rich get richer and Illini Basketball will return to the national stage both in the court and in recruiting! (Dang fridge went out and I had to chug all the cool-aid).

Hope so. This appears to be a very important class to keep the momentum. They really need to land Miller and another top 100ish guard.

I think Hutch Hamlin Grandison fill in the roster for this year, and also coaches won’t have to worry about spring recruiting next year (hopefully). Can focus filling 3 ships instead of possibly 6 if they were grad transfers. Can really focus on a few guys and not worry about having to fill 6 to make a roster again.

The other alternative is that Hutch is a ready to play PG and that buys them some flexibility on the recruiting of a guard. (I think this is a slim chance, but there are at least 2-3 interviews I’ve seen where both Brad and Austin both talk about his abilities at the point so it’s non zero in my mind).

Really think Miller is ours to lose, and I wouldn't be surprised with a DJ Gordon and Samson Rushentsev to finish the 3 players needed for next year. If we are lucky enough to pull that off or either one of the last two is switched out for say Hylton or Hawkins, I would say our team will be set for 3-4 years pretty good with that class and remaining players.

Need a pg in this class. My understanding is that Miller is an sg.

I have seen him considered a combo & sometimes I see lead guard. If they had one scholarship to give with a need for a big & Miller wanted to take it, you let him take it. He's that good. The hard part is getting him. If he comes they will sort it out later. Hopefully they get another point or one of these transfers helps out with the ball handling.

With Miller, they can add a developer PG and have Trent/Hutch play PG in 2020-21. As long as someone can play with Hutch in 2021-22 all is well. Agree that miller is “that good”.

He is considered good enough to play point as some say here...Gordon is working on his PG skills as well. albeit more iverson than stockton for sure...lol scoring vs passing/facilitating.
