Recruits....and I will say BU needs to be a little more active in talking to some recruits.
This seems to be a recurring theme with BU. Doesn't talk enough to HS coaches. Doesn't talk enough to recruits. He might not particularly enjoy the recruiting aspects of the job, but as the head of our program he needs to put himself out there a little more.

Well when you have kids scheduled for a visit or wanting to visit but the head coach hasn't talked to them one time its a problem...

How is that possible that the Head Coach hasn't talked to a kid that we are recruiting? I am a big Underwood fan but that seems unacceptable

Did Hawkins visit last weekend or is he coming this one? I thought him and Miller were gonna be on separate weekends, haven't heard anything on him lately except he was cool with BU.

He is coming the weekend Miller was originally scheduled to come.

[pure speculation alert] I'll be surprised if Hawkins has a committable offer. #notaninsider

is this conjecture, or is there evidence? has a targeted recruit said so .... it seems to me our recruits have said communications are constant/steady/good (eg, text all the time, cite relationships, ...), even for recruits we don't land

Constant communication with BU or with the assistants? When they say that they are usually talking about one of our assistants.

It's committable and they will try and close it down.

Agreed Hawkins has been on front burner for some time, since he expressed an interest in an offer what about a year ago. If this kid wants to commit, they would gladly take him on his visit imo....he would be a great first commitment, especially concerning Miller is coming, then add R to the mix?

Is illini0440 this boards first legit insider? Vote for enshrinement into a Hall of Insiders? Maybe included stuemke if he stops by more often.

This is the single most concerning thing I've read on this board in a long time.

That being said, maybe it's due to some other conflicts we aren't privy to?

Wow. Really hope you're not in recruiting circles. That attitude would go over like a lead balloon.

0440 was simply passing along some info on the move, not endorsing it. And even if you agree with the move, that doesn't mean you should ignore how it effects existing relationships.

Personally I'm not ignoring it and I'd be glad to help by holding hands or just listening. It's the kind of guy I am....a giver, lol.

Usually? Hmmm, nice and vague, lot's of room for interpretation there.

That's not vague at all. When kids talk about communication, they are usually referring to communication with the assistants. Because a huge portion, but not all, of any communication between coaches and recruits would be with assistants. He's not make a vague reference to how many of the kids meant assistants vs the head coach, it's a reference to "usually the communication is with an assistant, and sometimes it's with the head coach."

What conflict would there be that would cause a head coach to not talk to a kid his school is recruiting?

I really can't imagine what his reasoning could be, but then again I'm not familiar enough with the inner workings of college recruiting. My question is really only applicable to an isolated instance of this. If this is modus operandi, it can't possibly lead to significant leaps in our recruiting efforts. I understand delegation and letting people (assistants) do their job without too much interference, but this doesn't make any sense to me at all.

Can't scare a recruit off if you don't talk to the recruit.

And such an easy thing to do. I trust Illini0440 more than most on this board, and apparently whomever illini gets his info from feels like he/she would like Underwood to have more contact with the recruits. It may be true it may not. The Head Coach having contact with recruits seems to be 101 class level. I can't imagine the staff not jumping all over this if it were a problem.

I don't think you know what you're talking about!
