Okay, I'll deflate my hope a little bit after today.

Need a recipe for a 4-game losing streak? Go 3 for 27 with RISP.

Go a league average 7 for 27 and you’ve won two more games, are sitting 2 games out of the division, in the 2nd wild card spot, and only a half game out of the 1st wild card spot.

The offense continues to come up small in big situations. Been this way for three years.

I think the Cubs have to go 7-1 to make the playoffs and that might not be enough.

Spot on post. It almost feels like they are beyond repair. JM certainly gone, but the holes are growing each year and the band aid approach is not working.

The Cubs are 58-58 over their last 116 games. That’s a long, long chunk of the season to be playing .500 ball.

The only reason they were in the hunt at all was that nice hot stretch from mid-April to mid-May. Since then it’s been 10-game hot streak followed by 10-game cold streak over and over.

Give up if you will, but I've been a Cubs fan since 1963, there's still a chance until there's not! I'm happy that these guys have thrilled me for 5 straight years in my lifetime. Got my World Series, I'm good...But I never give up, until I know I can't win. We still can!

One year (2006) a team stumbled to the season end by going 3-9 over their last 12 games, winning only 83 games total, yet still made the playoffs and then went on to become the World Series Champions. So anything can happen. And like you, I have also been a fan since Stan Musial's final season, though not of the Cubs.

Except if the Cubs go 3-9 over their last 12 (and they’re already off to an 0-4 start), they won’t make the playoffs.

Just in case anyone was wondering... 2 years and $33MM left on Kimbrel’s contract.

He will be fine. He didn’t have a spring training, front part of the season, struggled, started to spin it pretty well, and then got hurt.
Those 3 home runs this series have felt good though. 2 from guys my Birds need to get going if there is any noise to be made.

Is the close to rivaling the ‘69 collapse? Card fans will be crowing about this for years to come. And I don’t blame them.

My wife lived and died with the '69 team's struggles. When I read your comment to her she said, "I DON"T THINK SO."

I got a prenup agreement before we got married and brought her over to the red side. She showed she was still blue in 2016. I feel betrayed. ;)

2019 is shaping up to be one of the most disappointing years in Illinois sports history, and that is saying a lot

I knew it would be tough to make the playoffs but I didn't see a complete collapse like this coming. There are a lot of holes to plug on this team and there are a number of players that have been a part of the big picture for years that are going to be gone.

Just in case anyone was holding out hope on a miraculous last week run, the Cubs took care of that with tonight's effort.

6 for their last 58 (.103 BA) with RISP, by the way. It's to the point that it has to be in their heads, now.

The Cubs have been a dead on MLB average team for the year in BA - .253. Their .258 batting average with RISP is slightly better than their overall average, but just slightly worse than the MLB average of .262. (For some reason, the gap between overall BA and RISP BA is a little larger this year than it has been historically - .009 versus the usual .005 or .004.)

It's certainly true that the Cubs haven't been a good situational hitting team for a while now, but what we've seen over this 7 game losing streak is completely bizarre.

It's strange, but I think I'll remember the 2019 Cubs in the same complicated way I do the 2004 Cubs. Frustrating, ultimately falling short, but a team that for many nights over the course of a season, I enjoyed the hell out of.

What a sad state of affairs. 3 walks and 2 wild pitches to lose the game in the eighth. The cubs have to have one of the worst bull pens in the league.
