Stephen Gentry looked pretty good coaching the offensive ball movement/passing drills I saw last saturday at Ubben for the hour I was there. Really looked like he knew what he was doing & the players were responding.

I think there's little doubt that Gentry has hoops chops. Especially, with Underwood's schemes. The only question is, can he recruit well? Obviously, that remains to be seen.

Is it your impression that if this season goes the way we hope/national pundits predict that this will smooth itself out? Or should we expect a serious shakeup either way?

I suppose it could, but I wouldn't bet on it. Recruiting is 7 days a week. If Whitman is looking over their shoulders, telling them to stay away from situations they think they can handle, then you're going to have conflict. Isn't that a big part of how we got Underwood from OSU in the first place? Also hard to imagine they're on the same page if Whitman got involved in such a major way as telling them to make staff changes. Underwood is too seasoned to let it affect the team, but I wouldn't be surprised if this has ramifications later.

Absolutely the guy can coach hoops. That's the reason Brad wanted him for Assistant to the head coach. I wouldn't get your hopes up on his recruiting abilities from what I've heard but who knows.

If we have the season we want and our AD takes the handcuffs off everything will smooth out but if not.... 😬
That certainly leaves open the possibility that BU could leave if he feels micromanaged (ie being told how his coaches are allowed to play the recruiting game.) A really good season could make him attractive after a complete rebuild. A disappointing season would limit his options.

Just noticed that the arrangement of the team logos at the bottom of Curbelo's final five image sort of spells out ILLINOIS. I from Indiana, Miami is opposed LL's, the Illini I is of course an I. Missing the N, but the Oregon O is an O and the SJ is easily read as an IS.

Sending a clear message!

Illinois has had a target on their backs since the 80's with regards to recruiting. If Whitman is getting some feelers that after the FBI thing we should tread lighter for a bit...so be it. I don't know, I'm just spit balling WAG's.

That's not it....the FBI stuff all has to do with the shoe companies and coaches. we aren't involved in that.

This seems a bit more than tread lighter. One coach essentially gone and at least some indication our best recruiter is going too far for JW.

Listen, I don’t want to get hammered again, but it seem unlikely we are playing in the same game as these other programs. Of course we have no way of knowing either.

I apologize for letting the thread drift in this direction, and hope it doesn't deflate things around here.

Your not the only one blowing hot air around here...but calm yourself a bit and come back down to earth...

As i said the other day every schools version of the game is different. We aren't doing the same stuff as Arizona or Duke.

I have no inside information, but I'm not feeling good about Miller.....combination of him waiting and hearing too much noise about the Arizona schools. Just feel like we should have tied this up by now.

Recruiting is not for the weak-kneed or nervous. You might want to take a deep breath and step away. Cross your fingers while you're at it, though.

I think, based on his prior experience, that expecting him to be a recruiting wizard right now is clearly a bridge too far. What we have to hope is that he can learn that part of the job while making seriously positive contributions now in the coaching aspects of the job.

If you are expecting every recruit, especially top ones, to commit on or right after their visit without weighing their options and/or enjoying the process, then I might suggest that following recruiting is not for you, friend.

Hopefully the hoops chops will turn into more wins which turns into easier recruiting - rinse and repeat.

Sound advice......and advice i'm incapable of taking. I will, however, cross my fingers!

Well talk is that Arizona is out, so maybe you'll feel better. I feel great about the recruitment and always have, but then, I'm from Peoria. We also have 3 of 4 CBs for Miller and have Da'Monte on our team. Miller has been close to Da'Monte and his family for years.
