Shildt makes the right moves a lot more often than not. Certainly more than Matheny ever did.
There has been plenty of questioning Shildt’s moves this year but, agree to get to this point he is doing the right things.

Matheny certainly had his moments but, he had a fair amount of success too. LCS’s, WS, win 100 games. His last couple of years didn’t get to the playoffs but, we weren’t buried at the bottom of the division either.

Shildt had a bad series, but he's much more likely to listen and learn from that than the dullard Matheny was. In 2014, Matheny brought in Wacha, who hadn't pitched in a month and was hurt, for the deciding inning in game 5 of the 2014 NLCS. And he was only the 3rd pitcher in the game, it's not like this was the 18th or something. That was, by far, the worst instance of managing in the playoffs I can remember.

It's no coincidence that every time the Cardinals bowed out of the playoffs under Matheny, it was due to 3 straight losses. Matheny panicked, did dumb stuff, and lost the team every year.

Watch this, we did nothing against Sanchez but we turn around and beat scherzer. That seems to be our M.O. we need to have a better offense night, take pitches, not swimg at too many things and be more disciplined. I can’t believe how many danged pop-ups we had yesterday.

Well if you're Shildt, how would you change the line-up around heading into Game 3?
Have to get Fowler out of the leadoff spot. For me needs to be Edman or Wong leading off and the other 2nd.
Starting to wonder if we need Martinez in the lineup but, defensively that would be tough. Carpenter off the bench and Edman to 3rd? Or Fowler off the bench and Edman plays center? No good answer here but, if we don’t start getting some runs defense isn’t going to matter that much.

In any case certainly not a good way to start off a series.

And you'd keep them in the line-up even with both as offensive liabilities right now?

And if you're gonna keep Fowler in there, would you at least flip him and Edman in the line-up?

Definitely want to switch Fowler and Edman. I was asking for that in the NLDS. There are just way too many unknowns about Arozarena at the big league level. At least we know what Fowler and Carpenter are capable of. Good thing about a slump is it can end at any time.

I'm ok with putting Martinez in RF, but I won't blame Schildt if he doesn't. I do think if you play Martinez then you also should play Bader. Hopefully he could cover some ground in right center and help Martinez out a little.

Just a thought, lead of with Wong, move Fowler down or out for Bader. Edmond seems good, but could use some runners on, but could bat anywhere as, he gets a lot of extra base hits.

Thinking we will be running a lot as we haven't had a lot of hits. I would be disappointed if we didn't. Come on Jack.

I just hope we can test their bullpen at least once this series. Even if we only get 1 run off Strasburg, make him work and force him out in the 5th.

Changes abound in tonight's Cardinals line-up:
