Is john holcheck a candidate?

Some Chicago writer(s) may try to talk him up, but no P5 program should or ever hire a guy who has never worked at the college level. Only way he joins the staff is if he is hired for Patterson's role.

Any issue with Todd Graham being a defensive guy and his defenses weren't that good at the end. The first 3 years his defensive S and P+ were 20-50. His last 3 years in the 62, 117, 99. I really liked him initially but this has me soured. Whats the reason for this? Is he a 3-4 or 4-3 guy? My initial thought was that maybe RPO's started to become the standard and he has issues with that?

3 years before Graham got there they were 20-60 defensively for reference.

You sure they weren't going against a tampa 2 defense every game?;):):sneaky:
Against us they were going against Tim Banks which, now that ya mention it, he's co-DC at PSU. (Not to derail this convo, but what would Lovie's tenure look like if Tim Banks was his DC from day 1?)

Who was Todd Graham's OC in '12 when their TE was *WIDE FREAKIN OPEN ON EVERY PLAY*??
With Ford and Barker next year, we'll actually have solid talent at TE. Whoever the OC is next year, hopefully then can use the TEs as pass catchers quite often. Seems like a lot of college offenses use TEs solely as blockers and not a combination of blocking/receiving.

I meant who was Todd Graham's OC in 2012 bc I want him to be our next HC. It was Mike Norvell.

article about Whitman's take on the current state of Illini football. Hopefully he's just keeping up appearances..there's no way he ACTUALLY believes this staff is giving 100% and is still this incompetent. right? right?! Also plays the moral victory card about our fake comeback vs Michigan. Please just be josh-ing me, Josh. There's no way he can actually still trust this staff.

I think this is one of those things where he is saying what he has to say at this point in the season. He can't come out and say that Lovie is terrible it will take any effort out of the rest of the season and kill recruiting (although the current class is pretty dead already).

Banks doesn't have much say in what goes on defensively at PSU. It's all Brent Pry who has been with Franklin for awhile.

I also don’t believe Feldman or any other media person’s opinion of who would be interested. This is just lazy journalism - Illinois sucks so no one will be interested. Bs. Each individual is different and there are all sorts of other factors involved like if they like the AD or where their family is from etc.

I trust that if a change is made, Josh will surprise Mr. Feldman. Who would have predicted we’d poach Underwood from OSU?

I dislike this view of sports media. There are obviously examples of sports journalists who make money off their opinions, but I think Feldman has earned the assumption that he isn't just making things up. I'd rather appreciate the access and insight that good media people provide than assume everything negative about our school is made up.

Quite the opposite, he's a scoops guy. What he's getting is coming primarily from agents, I'd imagine. No one just operating on opinion would float Nick Rolovich for the Illinois job. But if his agent is sniffing around for him, that's worth noting, though more than likely it's just fishing for a raise at Hawaii.

If you want a look behind the curtain, the cost of that is the information you're getting comes with the agenda of the people giving it to you. That's the game these guys play. Feldman is very good at it.

Yeah, you want your AD to play to the whistle, so to speak. No good comes from doing otherwise.
Yes, exactly the opposite of what Thomas did to Bruce, team went on an 8 game losing streak, right after a tenuous lack of support. (I didn't look it up, but that is my memory).

Do we really think this team can win two more games? Nothing I've seen tells me that.

The way we've been playing we've probably got about a 25% chance at Purdue, maybe a 35-40% chance at home against Northwestern, and very long odds for the rest.

(Rutgers being considered a layup. My goodness, if it's not...)

Graham would be an okay hire. He has assembled a great staff everywhere he's been and turned around a pretty bad Rice and mediocre Tulsa program... his one year at Pitt is a pretty bad eyesore though. Definitely some questions about loyalty, personality, etc. etc.

I'd rate that as a B- type of hire.

Well I just don’t take anything these guys are saying at this point as gospel. Is there truth to the fact if he had a choice Fickell would pick MSU over Illinois? Could be. But if MSU is not open and Illinois is, could Fickell decide to come here? Maybe. Shoot as mentioned above you had Glenn Mason introduced as the Georgia coach only to switch gears a day later. This is where the other factors come in.

so my bottom line is I take all of these ‘scoops’ with a grain of salt. These guys don’t get attention if they don’t have ‘scoops’.
