Not a big NHL prospects guy--Can a kid sign an NHL contract (maybe one that starts after his senior year) and still play in the NCAA (I assume no).

Nope. As soon as a kid signs, that's it. NCAA players typically sign shortly after their NCAA season ends.

Scott Powers said the Hawks are set to meet with Ian Mitchell next week regarding his future. Would be tremendous if he signs now.

And I think I read that Mitchell doesn't want to toil in Rockford for a couple of years. I think the quote was something along the lines of "I want to make an immediate impact".

I'd be surprised if he signs before this year starts but one never knows.

lol, they all say that. The most I see Mitchell with the Hogs is 1 year. Heck, he has a chance to play for the Hawks this year (provided Colliton has the stones to scratch Seabs). His path is cleared now. Hawks giving him something to ponder. You never know.

re, Mitchell: doubt he's going to give up his Captaincy and turn his back on DU. Hawks are paving the road for him to make a Makar-like late season entry.

Arty to Ottawa for Zach Smith. Saves about 1.7M in cap and Smith is apparently a strong PKer his FO% is at least a few points better than Anisimovs. Looks like a good 4th line center, maybe he gets moved again next off season.

It's hard to get too excited about acquiring a guy who passed through waivers last year. I would have thought Anisimov would have some positive trade value but apparently that was not the case. At least we seem to be getting guys who are good on the PK, and if that unit improves greatly it could make a significant difference this year.

I get it, and yes I would've thought trading Anisimov would've netted us more, but fitwise I'd rather have Zach Smith. The cap savings is important too, probably opens the door for Perlini to resign. Still, like I said, I imagine Smith is gone for the 20-21 season.

Smith's buyout for 20-21 is $1M, so his hit won't hurt the Hawks to badly if they need additional cap space. And, yes, Smith is a much better fit for his role than Anisimov would've been.

What a horrible giveaway by Gilbert for the Flyers first goal. Not exactly a stellar performance today.

Are we trying the St. Louis Blues formula? horrible first half, on fire second.

Sure. All you gotta do is find about 6 more actual NHL players.

Wow, a Blues fan throwing shade at the Hawks. Go figure!

Last 2 games were stinkers, no doubt about it. That said, this team is far better than the last two, despite shaky results thus far.
