Sharing at the risk of jinxing us, but I took ZzzQuil last night and had the best dream. The Illini beat MSU and win out (9-4). Minnesota loses to Penn State and Wisconsin. Wisconsin falls to Iowa. The beloved win the West and are headed to Indy. I’m pretty sure I was at the CCG in Indy and the atmosphere was LIT.

If this happens, you guys can thank me.
Finally someone else that fall asleep visualizing how ILL can become National Championship contenders. I thought I was weird

I don't want to get crazy with weird predictions and stuff, but I certainly do think we can score points and I think we have improved enough defensively that 15.5 does come off as kind of insulting...

We'll see what I'm thinking at about 6:00 pm Saturday night, though....

While that may be, below is what mhuml32 put together in a different thread, which shows our offense lagging behind last year's (note: I don't really care that much as long as we get to 6 wins--I just believe it is defensive improvement combined with minimal regression in the offense that has led to a better year):
Offensive Comparison
Team YPG
2018: 412.2 (54th)
2019: 326.1 (112th) 👇1

Team YPP (yards per play)
2018: 5.9 (40th)
2019: 4.8 (104th) 👆1

Team PPG (plays per game)
2018: 70.3 (79th)
2019: 68.0 (90th) 👇11

Team Rushing YPG
2018: 244.0 (12th)
2019: 163.3 (64th) 👆7

Team Passing YPG
2018: 168.2 (111th)
2019: 162.8 (114th) 👉👈

Can't compare those stats year over year without considering the competitive inbalance of last year. We have been in closer games this year than last year. We are not playing against our foes 2nd and 3rd string while down 40 points.

Ill will take last years rushing but this year's passing (Perers, receiving corps).

There’s lies, there’s damned lies and then there’s statistics... I have a hard time believing last year’s offense was better than this year’s. Far from perfect to be sure but, the one stat that makes the most difference to me is 5-4.

Stats absolutely lie. And I 100% agree that at the end of the day I care more about wins. But there is no denying that this year’s running game, particularly Reggie Corbin, is not as good as last year. Yes, they laid the eggs against Purdue and Iowa, and we have yet to be manhandled outside of Minnesota. But the biggest reason for this year so far is the defense and its ability to create turnovers. The only improvement I see by the offense this year is fewer turnovers, which is still really important for success and not putting our defense in a bind.

I'm cautiously optimistic that we can win this game. If so, maybe we can plant the :illinois: flag at mid-field like we did in 2006. 😃

I barely understand the game of football, and I'm certainly not a stats guy, but don't all the defensive touchdowns reduce the number of possessions which reduces the number of yards gained by the offense??

You add a possession on each defensive TD, but that has no impact on yards gained because it kills the current drive and starts a new one. It does change yards per possession, but not the absolute value of them.

I believe he’s talking about our offense

I think he might have been saying that every time our defense scores a touchdown, our offense doesn't get the ball back, so it reduces our offensive possessions and chances to gain yards.
