Did I hear correctly that Illinois is going to lose 30 seniors after the 2020 season?!?

If you look at the scholarship grid, players that are done or would be done without a Redshirt this season or next it is 28...may be a few drop off, but if we add any one yr grad transfers this coming year they will add to that number (Add Epstein & Roundtree back and it would be 30, so that may be where the number comes from). But regardless, this will be a full class and important for the future.

Perhaps...
Potentially a good addition to the DL. Still wish we could've locked down Joe Moore, but supposedly that's gone and done now.
Is Spann already in the fold just waiting to announce? I can't remember the rumors. I know he visited.

Spann is Rods guy and they are very close. He enjoyed his visit.

im curious if we have room for another qb? With only a handful of scholarships left, I’d think we would want to shore up the dline and maybe add another db?

But I’ve heard very little about our defensive recruiting. From what I’ve heard, we have another dt and de that are looking good. But I’ve heard little about dbs. I’d like to think that we will add two juco or transfer tackles (in addition to the two 2020 tackles). But I’d like another safety.

Adding Spann and Dixon gets us to six scholarship QBs, right? That does seem steep with the scholarship pinch this year. Maybe there are concerns about Dixon not signing? Someone leaving?

Maybe we're looking for our next great QB we can put in for 3 plays once every 4 games!

Generally speaking I would agree but this is different, it's the quarterback position. You stockpile as many good ones as you can and if a player leaves he leaves. You can't take a chance at QB. Not having one leaves you no possibility for success.

I wonder if the writing is on the wall. At least one redshirt freshman who will leave, right?

I’m actually surprised that we brought in several high star skill position players that will all receive a redshirt and still won at least 6 games.

I don't know, better question for someone more in-tune with that. I do know that room will be crowded.

If IW is ahead of Robinson or Taylor in the depth chart after 2020 spring practices, it would be reasonable for them to consider their options of going to another program to be the starting QB.

Attrition is inevitable. The staff knows what’s going on and how many spots they will have.

I'm happy for our turnaround for many reasons, finally making a bowl, being off this carousel and finally having some stability, but a big one is that I think Lovie will get some serious traction with recruiting. He's highly respected, a truly class guy, and I believe parents trust him with their son...all that was lacking was showing them we could win.

So happy not to be on this thread asking who's next.

Will we see an earlier push from the coaching staff to get 2021 commits?

Ignorant question from someone ignorant on recruiting/scholarship rules: is Bobby still on scholarship?

I don't think it's been confirmed, but he is probably on medical scholarship, which would not count towards the 85 limit.

I have no insight on this but from the outside looking in it appears that they have been pushing for 2021 kids since our Friday Night Lights Showcase back in June but none have hopped on board for obvious reasons.

This staff has done a great job of building relationships with 2021 kids and getting them on campus. Now that we are headed to a bowl and have the new facility I'm excited to see who Patterson, Bellamy, Clark, etc. can potentially land.

Recruiting timelines have been pushed up so much in recent years with the new December signing period. Most P5 schools have 15+ commits in the 2020 class so the focus has already shifted to the class of 2021. There are 43 schools that have commits from 2021 kids so it's not unrealistic to expect a 2021 kid to verbal to us in the next couple of months.

We’ve got a couple 2021 kids that are essentially in, it’s more a matter of when they announce.

I’m not too worried about the number of kids we’ll sign or when those timelines are, it’s more about the individual names.
