Not impressed by our O line? What? We rushed for 192 and if the first half play calling were better it would have been 300.

Barely heard the name of AJ Espensa.
That's impressive, right there.
As has been my habit during the win streak, I was out and not watching. I was curious what kind of havoc Espenes was wreaking out there.

Seriously we all felt the same way going into this game.

We beat Wisc because they were looking ahead to Ohio State

We beat Purdue because of the weather

We beat Rutgers because everybody does.

We needed the comeback of the century to beat a reeling MSU

We all know what today will be, Iowa 38 Illinois 6. 4-0 was just serendipity.

People, we made a lot of mistakes today against a really good team at their place and with 9 minutes to go this game is there for the taking. This is not remotely the same team that took the field against Nebraska.

Robert always talks about when your rebuilding there has to be some point when suddenly the light comes on. It started to flicker the second half of Michigan we just didn't realize it. The best part of this year is not the bowl (well really it is) it were not a joke anymore

Gut check time! We lost 63-0 to these clowns last year! They are ranked 19 and we played them at home. We only lost by 9 with the spread in Vegas of 16 with 4 turnovers. Fortunately, I’m in Vegas and took the points! We are bowl eligible and we play NW next weekend. Both football and basketball programs are heading in the right direction! Proud to be an Illini!!!:shield:

Watched the game with some Iowa grads. Before the game I contemplated whether to go or not. Wasn't sure I could trust us not to lay an egg and didn't want to be embarrassed in front of these guys. I went anyway.

So, the defense was good. They actually played a real defensive game in that they didn't give up 400+ yds and rely on turnovers to win. Not to say you can't win that way, but I don't think you can win that way consistently. The thing that killed us was the dropped passes and ints. However, all in all played a good game in a tough place to win. And we were still in it down the stretch.

Color me excited for the rest of this year and most definitely for next year!

I yeaen for the day we have a legit, big time QB. Both intercepts were complete headscratchers.

Also, could have been much worse, but the D did a good job of holding Iowa to FGs. I was pleasantly surprised. Tough to win without that turnover fairy though.

Thoroughly enjoyed today's game. I think we can now safely claim that we're back (at least for another 15 games). We actually played 4 quarters of competitive football. We literally looked like a Big 10 team! Now let's go recruit some 4 star talent for 2020 and beyond.

With that said, I don't think NW is a lock next weekend. Sure hope Peters is back and ready to go.

I really loved this game BIG BOY FOOTBALL IN THE BIG 10 and we were part of it. Shout out to the REFS for eating their flags and letting the boys play (except Peters hit). 2 NFL coaches who have found their calling in college teaching football. It was awesome to watch!

No one really mentioned it during the game thread at the end. But sure hope Peters is okay, and for Jive Turkey saying Robinson would’ve done better, the point was already laughable but that last minute of the game shut the case pretty quick. We need Brandon back and wish him well, any hit to the head is dangerous

Thanks for saying this. Peters and all Illini players gave 110% and represented the Univetsity well. Hope he is OK.

Team is giving NFL type game. Red zones are not automatic TDs, give up FG. Field position and solid defense. Chance to win with less than 5 minutes. Probably had a 35% probably the play before the fumble.

You should never be embarrassed about showing your allegiance to the beloved. No one takes us serious anyways so have fun repping the orange and blue..! That’s what I call a good loss though lol. Felt like we dominated the whole game, and just missed our opportunities. This program’s definitely moving in the right direction

Disappointing loss in terms of missed opportunities to score points, but Iowa did as well. Very impressed with how the physicality of this team has improved. Effort was very good and you played on the road against the no. 17 team and had every opportunity to win the game. Turnovers were the difference today. Going forward defense needs to improve the pass rush and limit big plays against. They really stuffed Iowa's run game. Offense needs more consistent qb play and receivers need to reduce drops (wow). You have to be pleased with how things are progressing.

Personally, with us getting the ball first in the 2nd half, i had no problems going for it on 4th down to try to get points before half. Iowa just had the perfect defense call at the perfect time.

I thought taking the 2 TOs in a row was weird. Going for it is just a matter of aggressive/conservative and how much you trust Your team. Lovie is a conservative Coach who really trusted his team at that time. Not bad coaching to trust your guys to make a play.

Hey we are back. We didn't have our "A" game today, and still had opportunity's to win the game, this shows how far we have come. We ran the ball on one of the best defense's in the country.

I had absolutely no problem with the Staff going for it in that situation. But terrible execution to burn 2 timeouts in a row, without running a play, and the 2nd timeout being your last. Even if you convert on 4th down the half is going to end unless you get out of bounds. Bad, bad, execution which wasn't, but could have made a difference between a W and an L.

This was fun to watch just about the whole time. Of course it's frustrating to see things like TOs and dropped passes, but to see how much more competitive we were this year was heartening. Hopefully we keep progressing and can beat them next season.

So pretty clear this team needs to win the turnover battle to beat a good team. Guess what.... somebody has to win the turnover battle and with this team I like our chances. WE ARE A GOOD TEAM!!!!!

I didn't actually get to watch the game (but had it on at a charity chili cook off that I was participating in, so I was keeping an eye on it), but yes... I like this team's chances too. Even though the Illini LOST the turnover battle in this game... Iowa found the end zone only ONCE this game. I'm not all about touting "bend but don't break" defense, but keeping Iowa out of the end zone except their first possession of the game at Kinnick is pretty notable in my eyes (at least i THINK it was their first? like I said I wasn't able to pay a ton of attention to the game)
