Looks like 2020 DE JaQuari Wiggles is visiting in December. Thoughts on him @Twangers ?

He’s an interesting kid. Quintessential “long on talent, short on technique” HS senior. Quick, fluid, great hips but like a lot of 18 year olds he’s still figuring out hand usage. He can dip-bend and not much else but being athletic and aggressive (He’s got a big motor) puts him into a lot of plays. Tre’Von Riggins needs a year and a half of S&C, Wiggins needs a year and a half of Austin Clark. Like to get a verified height-weight, he’s listed at a wide range of measurements and from the tape I would really question the 260 pounds 247 has him at but overall, he’s a nice kid to have should we get to that stage. I don’t have a great Atlanta contact (Which is unfortunate, because Mays and the rest of that city puts out some big time talent) so I don’t really know how likely of a flip candidate he is but were he to, he’s be a decent get.

I thought 2021 was the class Twangers was referring to. I thought he was saying next class will be phenomenal compared to this one.

I was actually referring to them both. My apologies for the confusion.

In quantity it will be. We'll be taking a full class in '21. We're in contact with a big number of top recruits so things are looking good so far, but no one knows how the class will turn out

Yes, but let's temper expectations at this point.
This is an Illini message board. Get out of here with your tempered expectations.

What he is saying is that both the quality and quantity will be better. At this point, we look to be in on a class more comparable to Iowa/Wisconsin

So 2020 class is way better than 2019? We had some good gets in 2019, Beason, Williams, Cooper, Witherspoon, Randolph, etc. I don't see at least without some big flips this year being better than last years.

no, what I’m saying, and I’m pretty sure he is saying is that in 2021 we will have higher rated recruits and more of them

Here's the Chicago Sun Times All Area team link https://chicago.suntimes.com/2019/11/27/20984640/sun-times-all-area-high-school-football-team-2019 If you're looking for Illini recruits on the list, don't bother. There are none. Two are going to Michigan (QB JJ McCarty (best IL QB) and AJ Henning (top WR)), Some OL recruits higher rated than any we hope to sign (Harper-Oregon, Dylan Barrett-Wisconsin, Skoronski-NW). There were some top Defensive players we couldn't get either. DL Sean McLaughlin-NW, Rylie Mills-ND, Willis Singleton-Iowa State.

Remind me again, please...who do we have recruiting Chicago OL and DL?

OG/DT Jalen Grant of Mt Carmel seems to have had a standout year and is uncommitted. He dropped from 300# to 275# this year and it seems to have helped his stamina and quickness as he plays both ways. Anyone know if we're recruiting him?

I noticed that too. I HATE how Minnesota is snagging some of our top guys. I really hope what Twangers has hinted at about top talent coming to us in 2021 turns out to be true.

From the discussion on 2020/2021 recruits, I *think* I heard that IL will be as good as Iowa and WI - present, recent or past I do not know.

No mention of MN was made in those posts. So, no idea how well we fare WRT MN.

No matter what it seems that we are not getting the top IL kids in 2021. Question is have we even tried, given the fact that they have committed so early in the cycle?

Grant is an interesting one. He’s a no star, no P5 offer kid - he can’t seem to break that seal of one big offer that opens flood gates. Before Butkus left this off-season I recall him posting / tagging him in some really impressive camp footage - he won OL MVP at some Louisiana camp- was definitively trying to get his name on Illini radar. Personally I think his film looks good and on the surface looks like a potential Big10 prospect to me

2021 top 4 recruits (NOT 2020), top 2 to MI and next 2 to MN.

JJ is in a league of his own, but I think we’ll see some shakeup in the order of that list as attention turns to 2021 on these rating sites. Justin Johnson, Lovett, Irving I’d bet are top 5 in state - I understand we have relations there to make a run at them. Athan may fall down the list a bit with his injury this year - we didn’t seem to give him much of a look at QB which is surprising cause he is very athletic. Sam Jackson has visited Illinois a few times since his verbal to UM.

i think we’ll have a shot at a few of these 2021s - I really like some of those RBs. End of the day though the Texas, Florida’, Georgia recruiting efforts are just as important with those states having several times the number of 4* kids as Illinois turns out

Not sure why this discussion has taken on water, it’s irrelevant. Midwest states don’t play the in-state game. They play the border game.
