Miami 81, Illinois 79 POSTGAME

I know he had some bonehead moments but also brilliant moments. That being said BU can’t afford not to play Allan Griffin he has to play. He and Frazier are our best shooters period
This is true. It's a little jarring how poor an outside shooting team we really are. Miami dared us to shoot from outside and we really can't. That doesn't bode well for the BIG schedule.

Outside of Arizona, the Illini played all mid to low Division 1 opponents and a D2 team before the ACC challenge and that level of competition just won't cut it against Power 5 teams.
Seems like Illinois usually schedules too hard, and gets the snot beaten out of them, taking them out of any chance to build momentum. So, now they schedule too soft, and aren't prepared. Who's doing the schedules?

I am as frustrated as everyone else, we have the pieces and the coach. STOP TELLING THE TEAM THEY WILL BE GOOD !!!! They have earned nothing yet. Plan on entering every game as an underdog having to fight to prove we belong.

Lindenwood and Hampton really got us ready for this game.
Your point really is spot on. We played at the speed of The Citadel, Hampton and Lindenwood. Miami loses to Florida, Louisville and UConn, but mentally knew what it would take to win tonight.

That's the pros/cons of scheduling tough early.

Proud of the fellas for the comeback, but this one is on coaching and HORRENDOUS defense. Lykes made a lot of tough shots but the number of times we fell for pump fakes-too many to count. I miss the days where a game like this at home was never in question.

#Illini Underwood: What veteran, really good players do.. (Lykes & Vasiljevic) rose to the occasion.

Our defense was very, very poor. This one is on me. I did a very poor job of getting our guys ready.

Ayo...comes off pick and roll and is walled up...he either doesn't see the floor well or the offense is not coordinated to make a pass when the help comes. The lane is usually clogged against us. Need two three pointers to spot up so help pays the price...that is only Trent and Alan...need Damonte to fill that role...If Tevian comes back, he might be that extra three point shooter. Need Miller right now...

Hyperbole aside, no, Ayo is not ready for the NBA. He'd be lucky to get into the D-League right now.
I still believe he has the talent. He just needs to absolutely believe he's better than anyone else on the floor, like that Lykes kid did tonight.

No

No joke. I must have seen it 20 times. Marcus Arnold anyone? The South Dakota St guy that went off for 30 and then transferred to us and did nothing?? That is *totally* an Illini Special. Watch - Lykes will grad transfer to us and morph into Ahmad Starks.
Wasn't Marcus Arnold Illinois State?

There's a name from the past. Lol

Good grief, if watching us come back from 27 down against a team hitting EVERYTHING they threw up, and a tiny mythical winged nymph pretending he’s Allen Iverson..... doesn’t at least make you think we have the potential to pull off some upsets, then you should probably stop watching college basketball.

Put two halves together and we absolutely can beat scUM and Maryland.

Not having Tevian is hurting us more than most understand. He is a fearless shooter in that situation and has the size to help our lineup options. I really thought he'd be back by now...

That happened to us last year. We loaded up and got spanked. Is there a happy medium?

And yet there were lots of folks in here complaining (WHAT? No way) about scheduling tough games like @GCU and Arizona.

Silly. Dakich knows basketball and speaks honestly. He’s the best college basketball analyst in the game.
I actually don't mind Dakich. He might be a little overbearing and can go on rants, but overall, he calls a good game. He's knowledgeable, but he's also brutally honest, which is hard to hear. I think he was saying what the rest of of were thinking(or typing).

Why, why are Kofi and Giorgi picking up fouls 30 feet from the basket? Giorgi did that all of last year.

Yeah, and put two other halves together and we get curbstomped by Rutgers.

Reminds me of Bruce having Meyers Leonard 35 feet out doubling ball handler...coaches must believe that is effective...but you can't do it if you can't move your feet...Meyers was bad at it..I don't think Kofi or Giorgi are effective at it either

If you can't keep the other team from penetrating , you a re most likely going to lose. There are games where Kofi and Giorgi can play together and some they can't. They never did figure out how to handle the high pick and roll and that is why they lost.
