I just went back through the schedule again and feel we’re headed for like 16-15.
I really hadn't looked at the conference schedule except for the first several games but this is our first 13 games: @Maryland (loss), Michigan, @MSU, Purdue, @Wisconsin, Rutgers, Northwestern, @Purdue, @Michigan, Minnesota, @Iowa, Maryland, MSU. Something like 4-9 isn't implausible. Sheesh.

I predict we start 8-5 through the first 13.

Trying to predict our record based on potential vs where this current team is, is not good for my mental health. Thinking back to last years schizophrenic season is a good reminder of that.

Agree....from what I have seen this year, any B1G team can win on any given night. Sure hope the Illini find some confidence and swagger to believe they can win every game and then think 'should' ! Plenty of talent but you have to show up...everyone on every night and there have been too many missing in action or making boneheaded decisions that are simply not necessary. Free throwing is also glaringly poor. Let's hope this team is not snake-bitten and can catch a few deserved breaks.

I think 6-7 needs to be the realistic goal here. Then 5-2 to end the year with a slightly easier schedule. Add a bragging rights win and that surely would get us in the tourney.

I can't help but think this season is going to be one big "fake rally." Lose a lot of games early on to dig a huge hole. Then hit a hot streak and win a few games we're not supposed to. And end the season losing one or two games we absolutely need to win to make it back to the tournament.

Play in the NIT and flame out.

Really hope I'm wrong.

In other words a typical John Groce season.

That's 18 wins right? That won't get us in this year unless those wins are against top 15 teams.

You could be right, but I feel it’s going to be more like head scratching losses followed by a streak of wins that put us squarely on the bubble. Enough to claim progress, much like we saw in football. And at the end of the day, also like football, probably the peak for this regime. Just enough to keep us firmly entrenched in mediocrity.

Minus the NIT, sounds like last year.

Miami will come back to be a bad loss imo, Maryland will show as a good loss imo, and we can finish 14-8 to finish the season out. 8 of the 14 will be home games won. 20-11 in the country's toughest top to bottom conference.

We get in and I don't think it will be close actually with 20-11 unless some annual lesser conferences has run away choices and that team doesn't win conference C-ship, then maybe a bid is stolen by a team than looks better since the NCAA is in a non dominant year by most standards.

We still likely win at least 2 in B1G tourney so 22-12 when all is said and done?

I can tell you've been following the Illini for a long time.

Miami projects as a season end Q4 loss according to warren nolan.

https://warrennolan.com/basketball/2020/team-sheet-predict?team=Illinois

OSU was lowest seeded B10 team last year, and they went 10-14 against Q1/Q2, and 10-1 against Q3/Q4.

https://warrennolan.com/basketball/2019/schedule/Ohio-State

22-12 this year means that Illini project to go 6-11 against Q1/Q2 (including 2-1 B10 tourney), and 15-1 best case against Q3/Q4 (1 win against lindenwood doesn't count). That's not a great resume.

Winning games like tonight certainly can shift the needle. Eye test looks great right now after this week, but on paper they‘re still just 1-3 vs Q1/Q2 which is on pace for the discussed 6-11.

Realistically, they need to win next 3 non-con, then 2 of 3 against @MSU, PUR, @WIS to move off a bubble trajectory.

I don't think people realize how close we were to getting Terrence Sahnnon, jr. :thumb:

I think with our new confidence and once and for all the team seeing what they can truly be playing hard for an entire game, even with 3pt shooting woes and lack of assists...we win ALL 6 of these!
