Kofi 15 years ago would he a sure fire lottery pick.

Kofi now? Not so sure. He doesn't really fit the 5 of the current NBA trend.
This isn't as true as people make it out to be. Could give you a long list of bigs without the ability to stretch the floor getting major minutes on *good* teams.

Hopefully he can hit his free throws in crunch time...3 misses were big against Fichigan...fortunately team held on.

Agreed and I did notice that. Still stand by what I said. He remains 75% on the season from the stripe.

I'm not too sure any of us Illinois fans are knowledgeable enough about what NBA talent looks like. These guys are really good, and they look great in orange and blue which may make them look better than they are, just throwing it out there. I hope they get to the league someday

Kofi leaves after this season and makes more money than he probably ever dreamed of if he were to stay next year and get injured god forbid his likelyhood of receiving the same money would drop significantly and for his sake and not ours I wish him the best

Everyone is excited by Kofi and rightly so as we haven’t had a center like this in years. However, compared his stats to other BIG centers:
Name. Mins. Pts. Rbs. Blks
Kofi. 25.4. 15.8. 10.6. 1.4
Otura. 30.7. 18.0. 11.0. 3.6
Smith. 28.0. 13.5. 10.2. 2.5
Wesson. 25.2. 14.1. 9.3. 1.6
Tilmon. 30.4. 13.3. 9.8. 1.1
Teske. 27.7. 14.3. 9.0. 2.3
Otura is a sophomore but has better stats and the rest are pretty comparable. Need to let the season play out.

Jokic is amazing....a bigger version of Larry bird. I don't know who Kofi compares best too, but many teams will find a place for him. The fact that he is picking up the game so fast,.. indicates excellent BBIQ which is an intangible that most of these top 15 centers have. That combined with a motor and a massive frame ....well the future is very bright for Kofi.

I don't know who Kofi compares best too

Drummond would be my guess, although I think Kofi is farther along offensively than Drummond was. Drummond has slowly gotten a footing in the NBA< Kofi would take some time as well.

Guess we will find out. Has played all of 2 minutes in 1 game this year so hope he's learning a lot in practice & while getting splinters on the bench.

Yup, and for all we know he could end up being a bad prospect. He is playing plenty though -- 11 games in the G league averaging 25 min a game. The structure of the league offers a bit more opportunities for development than it used to. Just look at our man K. Nunn.

As mentioned, Trayce Jackson-Davis with 25 pts and 15 rbs last night.

Kofi's per 40 minute stats aside from blocks are the best of anyone on that list.

K. Nunn is a great success story. Looking forward to going to the Mavs game tonight to watch him & Meyers play.

Kofi put in work against arguably the best big in the conference and one of the top tier teams as well; Trayce put in great work against a mediocre Nebraska team. Heck, Nebraska almost pulled a victory out of the bag last night!

What is the consensus here? A player leaves early, spends 4 years on a guaranteed NBA contract which let’s say pockets 2 mil post-tax, plays sparingly, and retires at 25... success story? Or failure?

A young Patrick Ewing, I hope 👍

Are we maybe overrating Kofis draft-ibility this year, based solely on the fact we haven't had a dominant 5 in like 15 years? We've had guys who've done one or two things well, but Kofi is the traditional 5.

Not trying to say Kofi isn't going to get drafted, but maybe it feels like he's a lottery pick to some of us because we just haven't seen someone like him in such a long time. I watch a decent amount of CBB, but the Illini account for probably 50% of that, and no other team gets even close to that.

If Kofi keeps up the way he's playing, I don't see any reason he should stay. Maybe he doesn't make an NBA roster, but he's a guy who could easily see the floor in Europe for a long time.

Let’s just hope he and Giorgi are having too much fun here.

Depends on your PoV/goals.

If your goal is to be a successful NBA player then the above scenario is a failure.
If your goal is to maximize your income for just 4 years out of college? Then it's a reasonable success (he might have made a lot more staying another year).
If it's how much you earned for your entire career, it's not very impressive. If he only plays 4 years and then has no degree to fall back on, that $2M after taxes isn't going to last him very long.

It's all about goals/expectations.

Never a failure if you are happy and live a good life, basketball, dishwashing, managing, are means to life, they are not life in the end. To label anyone a failure for living up to "expectations" is narcissistic. You can say they didn't live up to public or personal expectations, but we are not the judge of someone. They might not have lived their dream, but how many do, and how many would TRY in the public eye?

Lots of mock drafts out there. Neither Ayo or Cockburn in NBADRAFT.NET first or second round.
