In regards to MLB HOF admission, there are many people who believe that personal conduct is, or should be, part of the criteria. Others do not.

Humans cannot be removed from the process, whether we are talking MLB HOF or NCAA FB playoff selection/seeding or any other sports selection committee. Therefore, there will always be opportunities for someone to claim bias of some sort in one form or another, whether its actually present or not. It all depends on one's perspective I suspect. Anyways, I've not seen any negative feedback on the 4 teams selected this year, outside of the 1-2 slot. And while I personally would have picked OSU as #1 since they were there before this last weekend, and won, I can't fault the reasoning for making the switch.

So you don't like the process? Great, maybe start a thread and we can flesh it out. I don't think it can be changed in a way that pleases everyone. If they make a change of some sort that satisfies you, it will tick someone else off who was happy before the change, so things basically wouldn't have changed, big picture.
Personal conduct and availability to the media are not the same thing. I am talking about the players that don't care for the media and pay the price for it
Yes they can. Conference champions go into a one game playoff where the conference seedings alternate every year on a schedule. You win your conference, you get a chance to play. You don't win your conference, sit down and be quite.
That is kind of what this thread is for.

1. Pretty sure he was referring to South Carolina beating Georgia
2. There is a HUGE difference between #1 and #2. You get to pick the location between the two bowls and you play #4 not #3. This year that amounted to LSU playing Oklahoma in the state of Georgia over playing Clemson
3. Everyone has an agenda. To think all the board members do not rely on the media to establish their opinions on each football team is naïve. Yes some of them watch a lot of football. But they are not watching every game that helps shape the landscape. Remember when Condoleezza Rice was on the committee? How many football games do you think she actually watched? ESPN/Disney/ABC have an SEC network. It is in their best interest financially for the SEC to be in the spotlight.

Don't take that for anything more than what I wrote. Didn't say LSU wasn't good and I didn't say they did nor did not deserve the #1 spot. But as always, if you are using human opinion as a factor to decide the National Championship, there is always going to be a high risk of manipulation
Plus 1,000 %!!!

Okay, conduct/availability..... it can be the same thing for sure, but not always, therefore it's not something I care to get into. So we can just agree to disagree on that point and move on.

They can/cannot, again I disagree and we can leave it at that since I don't want to hijack the thread over personal preferences.

Looks to me like you basically want to expand the playoffs. Which is another thing entirely outside of what I thought the original discussion was about.

Right now, its about picking the 4 best teams, period. If the 2 best teams on any given year happen to be in the same conference, your proposal automatically dismisses team #2. I do not think that is fair. As I said, what works for you does not work for others... this is where the human element comes in, biases and all. I just don't think you can eliminate it, ever.

Here's what an 8 team play off might look like:

#1 LSU vs. #8 Memphis
#4 Oklahoma vs. #5 Georgia (at large selection)

#2 OSU vs. #7 Baylor (at large selection)
#3 Clemson vs. #6 Oregon

And here are win probabilities specifically for these games, using Massey's ratings, as a reference:

LSU 92%
Georgia 52%
OSU 93%
Clemson 78%

Keep in mind that last weekend's games were the following match ups:

#2 LSU vs. #4 Georgia
#1 OSU vs. #8 Wisconsin
#6 Oklahoma vs. #7 Baylor
#5 Utah vs. #14 Oregon
#3 Clemson vs. #23 Virginia

The Group of 5 winner was essentially a play in game for:

#17 Memphis vs. #20 Cincinnati

Would adding a round of playoffs really solve anything that wasn't already solved last weekend? I don't see it, other than just more football to be consumed.

If Georgia beat LSU in the SEC Championship game would they have left LSU out of the playoffs? No. So ya it just so happened to work out this year. We have already had that discussion in the past where it did not work out that way at all

Ah, the bowl games. Remember 1985? Illini lose to Army in Peach Bowl with Jack Trudeau as QB! Geesh.

Army-Navy game today. Tradition.

Daddy was in Air Force, part of Army then (WWII); brother served in Navy. Me? I pulled a couple of hitches in Boy Scouts.

Don't expand the playoff's. As it stands already it's typically three teams competing and a public execution of "the one that didn't belong". When there aren't even four competitive teams, you don't need eight tries to find the top three.

Wasn't that the game that was really sloppy wet/raining/etc. and it took our athletes' physical advantage away from them?

I remember that game. Conditions were the same for both teams, and U of I out gained Army by nearly 100 yards. Trudeau threw for 2 TDs, but also 3 picks.

I think it was more we could not stop their run game. If it had been "normal" conditions we would have "snuffed" them out. But with those conditions, all their lineman had to do was step in front of our players and it made like a perfect block, etc. So it benefited them greatly compared to us.
