Incredibly hypocritical stance from the guy but it doesn’t mean much.

Odd tweet. Coaches leave all the time. Either fired or go for a better opportunity to further their career. Not much of a difference than the portal.

To highlight the major major need for the staff to bring in a solid recruiter (as mentioned before, could really use a second recruiter to replace someone else on the staff), here is the breakdown of commitments based on the primary recruiter:

Austin Clark (Riggins, Davis, Newton, Shipton, McCoy)
Corey Patterson (Frenchie, Love, Tyler)
Bob McClain (Griffin, Sparks)
Miles Smith (Gardner)
Mike Bellamy (Thompson)
Rod Smith (Spann)
Andrew Hayes-Stoker (none)
Gil Byrd (none)
Keynodo Hudson (none)
Bob Ligashesky (none)

This isn't the end-all-be-all (position focus from 2020 class, certain guys may have been told to focus on building 2021 relationships, etc.).....but it's somewhat terrifying to see the guy responsible for almost 40% of the incoming recruiting class is moving on and Bob McClain is now the 2nd most successful recruiter on the staff.

These aren’t accurate.

Yeah. It's like you're a software developer and working for some random startup in, say, Kansas City, and then Google comes calling and wants to double your current salary. You'd be an idiot to say no to that unless you have some serious ties to the area. Can't blame a coach for pretty much the same thing.

Then fell free to adjust as you see fit. Illinois' football webpage does not list the lead recruiter, leaving 247 as the only content to provide an association for the lead recruiter.

Keynodo helped land every commit from florida whether as lead or not he played a big role.

I know he's mentioned a few times as the secondary recruiter on 247.

We, like most programs today, don’t recruit that way, however. Our attack is very much collaborative and there’s no way to attribute the landing of some of these kids to one person.

Speaking to two specific FL kids, if Hudson hadn’t pitched them they almost surely wouldn’t have signed.

It’s early I know, but any names starting to surface? This is a big hire for Lovie and the Illini. Hope this years success helps us reel in a strong candidate.

I feel like this is fairly assumed (but still a great point to bring up), but collaboration implies either (1) specific roles on the staff where certain coaches have more prominent roles bringing in recruits and others play a secondary role, or (2) every is pulling equal weight but there is a lead with each recruit and other members of the staff pitching in to create said group effort. Irregardless, Clark played a major major role in the 2020 class, and there are a number of a members of the coaching staff that either (a) didn't pull their weight by securing commitments for the recruits they were responsible for but were able to pitch in with others taking the lead, or (b) were purposefully in a secondary role, which still circles back to the recruiting deficit on the staff following Clark's departure and questions about certain members of the staff and their success in recruiting. This is especially concerning with such a large amount of recruits expected in the coming 2021 class (and first time in a decade that an Illinois football coach is getting a chance to replace their initial recruiting class with new recruits) .

With a Betiku gone, and Clark gone, Lovie better have some urgency with this hire. With the signing period coming up and transfers heating up soon, he can't go 3 months and then hire someone from within. No reason to panic, but he can't drag his feet.

What you do today is hire coaches who already have a well established recruiting network in a region that has too much quality talent for the local programs to take, and who have top players frequently leaving the state.

Florida, Texas, Georgia, Virginia, Arizona and Louisiana immediately come to mind...

Oh...and it also helps if the coach can actually teach the recruits how to play and come up with strategies and adjustments to get the best results out of them....

I suppose that the 2 week posting rule for a University position will be in play, correct? I know it has been tossed aside, in urgent situations, don't know if this will apply.

What are the chances Clark's departure was encouraged due to his alleged involvement in a cheating scandal at USC?

None, he wasnt looking for a new Job...Miami sought him out and Lovie told him he had to take it as those opportunities don't happen everyday.

Wrong quote....meant to quote Pvaughn

as much as I hate what happens to the program. Lovie is just consistently for people bettering themselves. At the very least, It’s great to have him as a coach.

Perhaps Lovie will make Orange Koolaid of this situation.

It was a little conspiracy theory-ish of me, I figured it would get shot down. I was just a little surprised nobody had made the connection.
