The Illinois Coaching Staff

Hey if someone is willing to pay you......
But honestly do we like our staff enough to pay that? Or is this simply and getting the program to a respectable level?

I like this quote;
"Hutchinson CC produces a lot of talented football recruits. They have players come in and perform well, and then those players are recruited by big-time programs. One player to keep an eye on is Art Green.

Green was only a three-star coming out of high school but went to Hutchinson to prove he was elite. He is now one of the best JUCO players and is rated as a four-star. At one time, he was committed to Tennessee but backed away from that commitment. He is now taking an official visit to Iowa State this weekend, Arkansas on January 24 and then Illinois on January 31 before making his commitment."

Always tough to judge these positional hires. Will be first full-time job at D1 for the guy, but a younger coach was to be as expected. I saw Werner labeled him as someone who will be focused on JUCO's and Atlanta. Fingers crossed he is someone that can make a major difference on the recruiting trail.

Highly, HIGHLY misleading.

Very interesting development. I guess this means that Hudson will be coaching the Safeties as well.

Not sure what kind of coach Lindsey will be but it appears that he was the recruiting coordinator at WKU.

I like the fact that we’re set up to recruit Georgia hard in the next cycle. Theres just so much talent in that state. It looks like WKU’s 2020 class has a number of recruits from Georgia.

Also looks like there’s a couple of players from Hutchison C.C. so I’m not sure if we’re trying to set up a pipeline there?

As in he won't be visiting on the 31st? Also, how do you feel about new DL coach/Byrd leaving?

As in the evaluation/star rating thing.

I don’t know either name but I like young, hungry guys and they both appear to be that so in that regard I think we did well. That said, if this is a part of a broad strategy to emphasize the GA/ATL as priority recruiting, then our HC still has yet to figure out how successful recruiting works.

Ahh got it... did he actually improve enough there that he's worth taking a shot on even if hes not at the "one of the best juco in country" territory? Sorry for my ignorance but isn't hiring coaches with connections to the area be the usual route to start making inroads like we are trying to do in FL/TX?

He’s definitely worth taking a shot on, especially at this juncture but I only like him at CB. He has awful tape off the line and that’s probably where he plays here, which is problematic.

Yeah but what we do in FL/TX doesn’t work.

I agree with you in general, but Lovies celebrity status holds weight across Georgia (particularly well in Atlanta And well in rural Georgia). We haven’t had success in Illinois or the surrounding area, non missouri. With rod moving to Indiana and our status in the other surrounding areas, I can tell you he is making a leveraged bet. Time will tell If his bet plays well and I know your stance on the decision .

Lovie’s “status”, whatever that is, doesn’t matter to those kids the same way it doesn’t in TX which is his actual home state. Those kids get offers from coaches with names bigger than his.

Prioritizing that area won’t work.

I wish these guys good luck. It would be great if they could bring in a quality transfer or two on the D-line. The performance of their units will be the key determinant in whether next year's team can progress from this year's results.
Thanks for sharing that link. These guys look solid to me. And I'm glad Keynodo gets all the DBs. But hearing Lovie mention recruiting with both of these guys suggests he has learned important lessons on that front. I hope they do great and absolutely love being Illini!
