Gee, I wonder what everyone thinks about Damonte?

I thought he played well in his 15 minutes.

Offense, not bad. Defense. Could improve.

If we want a chance to win the Big Ten, these next two games will mean a lot.

0-2, not impossible to win the conference, but need some things to happen.

1-1 Still in the thick of things.

2-0 We control our own destiny and along with MSU gonna be the favorites to win the conference.

I am just wondering when the time will come when we can have 5 players on the floor that are a threat to score in more than one way.
We are literally a 30 footer away from being tied for first. How about a l iui title positivity. I know it will get more difficult hut we are heading in the right direction. What team has what your asking for thus year? None.

Damonte probably not a good idea against a zone, thats just to much space the opponants dont have to guard

I was hoping Rutgers was an outlier. But it doesn't seem so. I'm not real confident in us getting out of conference play with only one home loss.

This Damonte venom is going a little far. Griffin was so far off with his shot today it was ridiculous he shot an airball and a banked 3. Damonte plays pretty darn good defense and rebounds very well. Plus he had 3 assists today. And we are 5-2 in the big ten. Something is working.

4 n a row baby! A win is a win and I'll take it.

On a side note if the Dookies can lose 2 n a row and Carolina keeps sucking man this is a hell of a week!

Go Illini!
Where is NC in the conference? 😢 Isn’t it a shame.

I've been critical of DMW. Obviously he doesnt bring a lot offensively. But it's strange to me that so many people seem to watch our games actively waiting for DMW to fail. I'm not one who thinks being a fan means never being critical of your team or its players, but he's a key piece of a team that appears to be on the brink of dragging this program out of the cellar and we treat him like he's Tom Coverdale.

Anyway, big win. This is the team I signed up for this season.

Alright, that was a trap game and I couldn't help envisioning the loss from the very start of the game. Kopp in the 1st half, Beran in the second half. That stud lacrosse player was game all night long. Matching us on the Boards was certainly unexpected and a bit alarming. I was truly surprised we couldn't keep them from scoring. They found a way to keep the dribble alive in the center of the court and denied us from cutting the court in half on multiple occasions. It forced us to collapse on both sides leaving many open kicked out threes. That they drained. That was not a good defensive game and they will have to refine their skeme going forward.

On the other hand, the offense was very good and we found a way against that strange 2-3 zone. I've never seen a team that had their top two so close together with their wings also so high. Almost like a 4-1 zone, sorta like a zone for a spread offense team. Regardless didn't work. We shot very well and found multiple ways to break it down. Great slips bases by Tre and Damonte were perfect examples of high low zone breakdowns. They did a very good job of finding ways into the middle of the zone.

Georgi and Ayo with super efficient games tonight. Loved the midrange baseline splashes by Georgi and that three was clutch in the second half. He was a positive influence all game long. Love his unselfish play and desire to help the cause. Ayo was Mr. Clutch again, game after game of late game heroics. 6 assists, this man is a force. Massive Fts to boot.

But this game belonged to Trent. Multiple 3s, 0 turnovers, ball handling all game long, defensive tenacity. Game is maturing and he is becoming the leader of this team. He actually lead the team in minutes. When he plays like this on offense he adds a facet to this team that is sorely missing. The inserting of him as the primary ball handler and solidifying the second unit with Tre, Kipper and AG has been the best move of Underwood's time.

Great shooting night and just enough on defensive to avoid what would have been a crushing blow.

Yeah I don't get this either. He played pretty well tonight. Swift passing and very good defense. Big blocked three in the first half to boot.

Can't shoot however. Lacking confidence.

Every b10 fan is saying the same thing.
At 7 more wins, we are 12-8 in the conf, 20-11 overall, with a 1st round bye in the conf tourney, favored to win at least one more, entering the Dance. @ 6, probably the same result, just a slightly lower seed in the Dance.
Should sound pretty good. Every game going forward in this conf, this year is winnable or losable. We have played pretty well over the last 5, MSU 2d half aside. But ask Izzo about his trip to Purdue. I'll take recent success over fear from earlier this year or last. 7 home games left, sounds like 5-2 at the worst and we have NW back in Evanston, we'll steal another on the road, at least, there's your 7. No doubt most won't be easy, but nether will wins for the opponents.

I think DMW "can shoot" but he chooses not to and clearly lacks confidence. I wish he would penetrate more.
On other stats...he has highest steal rate per 40 among regular rotation and his A/T rate is 2d to AFeliz.

Stealing two on the road for this team would be quite the trick. Let's hope

This is an honest appraisal on myself. I feel like I'm not enjoying the season. It's like I'm waiting for a disaster and scouring through the schedule on how we can get 6 or 7 more wins. I should be enjoying this so much more than I am. Intervention needed.
There were a lot of possibilities for today, and only one (wire to wire blowout win) would’ve been enjoyable. That’s where we’re at. Home games are must win, and this one most of all. Now if you didn’t enjoy the Wisconsin game, that’s a problem.

Ranked teams that lost to non-ranked teams today:

#4 Auburn - AWAY
#5 Butler - AWAY
#12 West Virginia - AWAY
#16 Wichita St - HOME
#20 Colorado - AWAY
#21 Ohio State - AWAY
#24 Illi... - HO...

Oh wait, no, we won.

It’s a good day.
Yes, BUT ..... What concerns me is we could not pull away at home against them and yet again we let someone go off on a career day. We really did not play very inspired on D. Not sure why we felt like we had to help on D alot and leave the 3 point line open.

Stop betting!! I know you would have enjoyed that $500. But I'm glad we won, regardless of the margin.....

Was at the game today and if you take the name off the front of the jersey and their 6 wins to date, I felt like I was watching two high quality BIG teams battle it out. Was it perfect? Of course not, none are. However, when you look up at the under 10 mark and both teams are shooting at nearly 50%, pretty entertaining. I know "but the defense" and all, but sometimes, teams just play well. Really enjoyed today's game! Go Illini, on to Mackey!

Northwestern is a strange team this year. They have lost a lot of close games. Maybe it's bad luck, or maybe they have a mental block that prevents them from making the plays they need late in a close game. Either way a close win was about what you would expect with NW's track record.
