Joel Goodson

respect my decision™
7'0', 190 lbs. Yikes, I would see a lot of Tisdale, 6000 calorie comments coming with him. Plus crystal balls are 100% Minny, so it's a lost cause. /s (only one CB submitted).

Other than physique, Holmgren is a much better prospect than Tisdale was. Shot blocker supreme.

There are probably others who know better than I but last I heard (probably on this site) Kouma himself still considers himself an Illini, or to have a scholarship waiting. Don't know about the Illini staff though. Would be interesting to get an official ruling on this. Is he or isn't he?
How long did it take David Palmer to get the word?

Wow, when I saw the pic, I thought he is likely 6'1". The write up sold me, but then again, I don't give kids offers.

34 in white, doesn't seem like D-1 to me, but I don't give offers either...

I want better guys than NU. Powerful guys like Purdue's Williams for example would likely own someone like Hawkins. The first thing we want Hawkins to do is get stronger and add mass. The fact that is what he will need to do is why we need someone to guard guys like Williams, MSU and Rutgers guys. I dont think Hawkins is physical type of 4 that could fill in at the 5 in needed for spot minutes. Our only guys that can attempt to guard a powerful 4 or 5 are Kofi and GB. We need that if someone gets hurt or in foul we are in big trouble. We need a guy that can shoot and play the 4 and fill in or play the college 5 spot.
Tomorrow Purdue has Harms and Williams and i hope GB and Kofi stay out of foul trouble because with Verdonk being hurt all year that is a match up problem for us. I dont thnk Hawkins would solve that but i hope i am wrong about that.

Who are we looking at that is physical thaat can play the 4/5?

No Hawkins would guard Haarms and Kofi or Giorgi would take Williams. With Hawkins handles, he could drive right around either Haarms or Williams and create problems for them. I think Hawkins is a 4/3 who can stretch the floor.

Imo Hawkins is 6'10" 195 kid developing still and Harms is 7'3" 250lb man. It would seem rather obvious to me that Hawkins is a long way from being able to battle in the post with either of themI am excited with the addition of Hawkins but he needs to get a lot stronger. We have 6'7" guys that would far better. With a plan and time he can get there but that's gonna take a while to cover someone like those two bigs Purdue has. Harms is pretty darn good defensively and hawkins us more of a 3 than a 5. That's too much to expect.

I hope Kofi stays for a few year but its doubtful. I love GB and Kofi but it's clear we need another skilled big guy that has some skill. Any name that that we may be in on?

I think one more year would likely be the most we get from Kofi. The NBA loves to draft on potential, and the longer you stay in school the more the opportunity to have your game picked over (not to mention injury). As much as I'd love to have Kofi in an Illinois uniform for 4 years it really doesn't make sense for him. Hoping he's here next year to work on some holes in his game, but can't imagine longer than that.

Personally, I think Kofi's draft stock will soar next year when he has Curbello feeding him the ball, especially if he makes the same progress he's made this year. But I get the philosophy to go while everyone's buzzing about your potential and you've got people like Dakich saying you'll be a lottery pick this year. It may be wishful thinking on my part, but I'm really hoping for one more year. The way the coaches are recruiting, I get the feeling that's what they're thinking too.

I think a fair player comp for Kofi would be Caleb Swannigan. If Kofi stays another year and continues to polish his game I think he is absolutely unstoppable as Swannigan was his sophomore year. Biggest differences are Swannigan added a 3 pt shot (tbd for Kofi) and Kofi probably can find more a niche at 7’ whereas Swannigan is a bit of a tweener in the modern NBA.

Kofi could get drafted after this year but if he sticks around and polishes his game would be a first rounder for sure/potential lottery pick and would have a better chance of ultimately sticking in the NBA. Hope he sticks around for another year.

Etienne. Already have Hawkins signed.
He cant play the 5 in the B10 at 195 lbs.. We need someone besides Hamlin or Hawkins to fill Kofi's shoes as a back up or when he departs for the NBA. I am glad we have Hawkins but his role is not as a dominate 5 to back up or take Kofis place. HE is more of a stretch 4 imo.
