Any chance we sneak in and snag Emoni Bates if he isn’t allowed to go pro down the road?

I was hoping Whitney, but it doesn't sound good right now for Illinois.

If true, that is kind of surprising in regards to where we stood with him before he went to Kentucky. If he is staying in college, we just make too much sense. We have a good team, and only going to keep getting better if we stay on this path. What isn't to like about our chances?

Illinois gets a small taste of a winning streak and now some say they don't want 5* recruits leaving Kentucky?

If Whitney comes here, does well, won't that help change some minds of in-state recruits and potentially increase our odds of being the first choice?

Why do most people on this site think Whitney would improve the Illini so much? He started for Kentucky and couldn't hold his spot, and I don't believe Kentucky is better this year than Illini.

This is silly. UK is the better team. Easiest way to show this is IL lost to and UK won against both their common opponents...

I also don't know how to argue with someone who is against taking a 5* with no disciplinary issues. IL should want all the talent it can get.

He was averaging 3.3 points per game. Just because someone is a 5 star ranking doesn't translate to a being a great college player. This day and age wings need to be good shooters, I am only saying that he had the chance to prove himself with talent around him and he failed.

I agree Kentucky was better than the Illini when those games were played. I wouldn't agree now.

Just inserted the bold to help put things in perspective.

He's no longer a 5* recruit. He's a player with half a year's experience and that's the primary measure for his worth at this point.

The issue is that for Kentucky, Whitney being good doesn’t matter a lot. They have another guy who can be just as good or better waiting to take his spot. If Whitney came here, we’d be heavily invested in his success, and he’d have more of a chance to get playing time and experience even if he struggled at first. He is a monster talent who has the potential to develop into an excellent basketball player. Sounds like it’s doubtful he comes here and may be doubtful he transfers to another school entirely. But if he wants to come here, we’d be crazy not to take him and try to develop him.

UK played Mizzou earlier this month...so not sure how far back that really is. I agree that IL has gotten better, but I'll believe we're a better team when we beat MSU (crosses fingers).

Whitney was overtaken by Keion Brooks and Johnny Luzang, who were ranked at 24 and 33 overall and would be two of the highest ranked players the Illini have had this decade. They were bench players on UK. This is a silly argument.

Just wanted to point out, we currently have a starter averaging 2.4 points per game at the wing shooting less than 30% from the field.

Honest question (yes I would take KW if he wanted to come) , how much would an extremely athletic 4 help us that cannot shot? How is his defense? I have been under the impression that a 4 that can stretch the defense is what is keeping us from the next level.
