What time do they open the doors at SFC for an 8PM game? 7?

Putting Ayo or Griffin at the free throw line in the middle of the zone isn’t a horrible idea. Get him the ball in a place where he can do something with it, force the defense to collapse and send active cutters to open spots

Re-watched the Maryland 2nd half(yuck), but we did beat the zone a couple of times and we missed shots. Kipper missed a layup, Ayo missed a couple of jumpers. The most effective way was Giorgi setting a screen for Ayo or Feliz to get in the lane for a mid-range jumper. Giving it to Giorgi or Kipper at the free throw line for a jumper is no good.

keep in mind, the three point line is the farthest away it has been over the last 10 years. We have KOFI&GB. I'm good with this stat.

Keep in mind the college game is clearly a 3 point guard's game. In our 7 losses this year, we have averaged an even 5.0 threes per game.

We got this. I am confident we are going to be focused and not lose this one. Coach Underwood will have the boys ready. Beat Sparty!

I think this game will be close the entire time and a few costly mistakes near the end will swing it.

The problem with our team, is we can be focused and play well, but I feel like we aren’t good enough shooting, that we have to get some breaks and some shots go in that normally don’t in order to win. The good news is that over the last ten games or whatever, we always bring the defense, rebounding, and effort. So if the shots go in, we have a really good chance to win. If not, we lose a close one we had a chance in.

Underwood: Looking back at Maryland, they were really good. They're playing really well.

Looking back at our offense, didn't like our pace. Cuts & ball movement became slow.

Underwood: Michigan State.. Obviously, everything starts with Cassius. He's 1A. 1B is Tillman. He facilitates offense. We got hurt by those guys in the 1st matchup. Let them get going in transition.

Underwood on message to Giorgi about backcourt turnovers:

"Don't be casual."

That is what I have been concerned about.
One may be able to compensate with great defense
But Maryland hit about 3 or 4 three's right over pretty strong defense.

As was suggested earlier in this forum, have to lock down their two scorers
Duke's Trey Jones single handedly beat NC. Go to a zone, double team him, don't let one person beat you.
Need to amp us the defense like we played against Minn.

3's totally energizes the crowd and deflates your opponent, particularly on ones that are near the shot clock buzzer. In all 7 games we have lost this year our opponents have had more 3's then we did in every game.

How many of our wins have we outshot opponents from 3?

We are bad against zones because the team is really bad at passing.
I thought we figured out the secret sauce to this a while back, but to your point, we can't seem to be able to pass well out of the press either. MSU may not play zone but they will press us, again. I hope we've figured out how to play better under pressure...

No doubt. Just watch any of our games. It is extremely obvious that our passing is the worst part of our game. There is a reason we dont get many open looks and 90% of our shots have a guy in our face. Its not the offense itself, its the lazy, poor, predictable passes that cost us. It was much worse last year. Hopefully they get it fixed in short order.
Agreed, I'm getting tired of watching pointless passes at the top of the key where there seems to be little actual ball movement. When we remember to cut hard and move the ball more across the court we seem to play better. We need to remember what got us here before those last two losses.

Its been a while since ive been able to enjoy a few in Champaign then head over the SFC. Any good pregame bars that wont be filled with college kids?

Some things are going to have to change for Illini to win this game. Last meeting Winston and Tillman had really good games on both ends. Tillman and their big man Bingham caused all kinds of problems on the defensive end. Hope the players can dial it up a notch and feed off the crowd.

I can guarantee you that we will not shoot 3 for 28 from three as we did in EL in early January.

I strongly support this poster in stating that we will not shoot exactly 28 3's in this game and make exactly 3 of them.
