And I think that's why he does it. But in doing so, he becomes very easy to take the ball from. I think he has the ability to bounce right up off the floor after catch an entry pass. If he does that, no one has time to rotate over. And if he keeps the ball high, no one's taking it from him. He may miss the shot, but heck, he misses a lot of close in shots already, so he'd be no worse off doing that.

Going straight up immediately only works for him if he has his man pinned deep. Even a step outside he needs to survey if he’s getting doubled on the catch. Then when he makes his move he needs to recognize if he’s getting doubled on the dribble. Does the double stay, is it just a stunt, etc.

If he immediately goes up on the catch when not in great position and the other team is doubling him on the catch, he is now shooting an out of position shot over 2 defenders. A bad shot is as good as a turnover.

OK, yes, I understand he does need to dribble sometimes, especially if he's backing a defender down and keeping the ball away from him.

But I have often seen him catch the ball deep and immediately dribble once without moving any closer to the basket. He needs to keep the ball up high in those cases. Don't put the ball down where the shorter people can get it. If he can't get a good shot where he is and he can't dribble without a good chance of the ball being knocked away or stolen, then he should pass back out.

Ayo looked great again.

To me, if he can work on his 3 this offseason and play a junior season, he can make a lot more money in the 2021 draft.

I agree, but everyone else on this site will say take the money, whatever it might be.

To his credit, Kofi kept the ball up high much more tonight, especially with the early alley-oops! :D

He also showed more patience with the ball and made a couple of excellent passes out of the double team. He will be a bigger monster next year and we will need him with Ayo gone.

It feels like Ayo will be heading to the NBA after this season, but I have not seen any of the mock drafts online with Ayo in the 1st round. I think if Illinois makes a splash in the tourney, and if Ayo plays the way he can, it will elevate him on many draft boards. I hope he decides to chase a Big Ten title and maybe even more next year and comes back to play for the Orange and Blue! Go Illini!

I have been thinking Ayo is probably a late first round pick as it is now.

If he chose to stay I could see him projecting to be a lottery pick in next year's draft.

I don't view that as an easy decision to make.

I wonder what Ayo and other athletes will do if the NBA pushes the draft back. There are rumors of the NBA looking at playing the finals as late as August and potentially having the draft after that. Would potential draftees stay with their universities through regular summer workouts or leave and work out on their own?

I’m interested in what will happen to the summer league because I already bought my trip

Great season. I believe if the NBA doesn't start back til June if they do at all, it will delay the draft process and make the time shorter for evaluation and guys turning pro or not. I think we will see alot of guys return due to uncertainty. Ayo is still nowhere to found on most pre-draft boards that I can find. Regardless I wish him and family the best! You can see the love in that family.
