They wouldn't cancel the games, they'd likely play them in empty arenas.
Agree, but hard to picture what that looks and sounds like without the bands, fans, cheerleaders - obviously won't seem like March Madness.

Think it will be interesting to see which conferences follow the Ivy League. Depends of course on if there's been an outbreak in that part of the country, but I think also on kind of the attitude of the particular people in charge. You've got the people now saying this is an overreaction and panic...people like that more inclined just to go on with the tourneys with fans. Others will follow Ivy and could see this multiplying and pressure will come to other leagues to cancel too

Minnesota over Iowa wouldn't be much of an upset. They had one of the toughest schedules in the country and are better than their record indicates.
Iowa beat Minn twice this year. First time by 20. Very safe bet Iowa beats them a third time. Very big upset if they don't.

Honestly, I think Iowa just played the best game they could against us, and I have no fear of facing them again. Not predicting a win, but I think we have a better overall game in us if we play them. Also, I desperately want to see DMW cover Fran-kenstein's Monster again.

I do not concur, I think Garza played as good as can be expected, but if the other two main players swing guards with the ever endearing McCaffery kid bring anything at all other than attitude...well I think they could do more damage to us than last game. Now if they don't the odds aren't with Toussant and anyone else picking it up again either.

The Iowa junior center has scored 53 points and had 18 rebounds in two games against Underwood’s Illini, so there’s that.
Any thoughts on how Underwood might slow Garza down a little, if we meet again on Friday?

There is no way to slow down a guy like that. You just do your best to try to keep him from getting the ball. Once he has the ball, we really don't have anyone who can guard him. Honestly if GB could hit more shots one inch from the basket and we can figure out how to make free throws again, that game wouldn't have been so close at the end. When we face them again on Friday, there is no reason we can't dominate the game. We have all week to prep for it.

I hear what you're saying. Garza scored 28, they made 50% of their FGs, plus 50% of their 3s, slightly outrebounded us, Trent Frazier was ice cold again, yet Iowa still lost. That said, all Iowa needs is for someone other than Garza to have a big game. If we let up on defense, we'll get beat. If Trent hits a few threes, though, our chances improve greatly.
Had Giorgi not missed that lay up which led to a wide open 3 next possession by Iowa, I really think we would have won by 10. They were starting to close in and that play right there made is a 7 point game instead of a 12 point game.

But it’s also a fault of ours that we couldn’t finish them when they were down.

Has extra prep/down time improved our performance this season? I'm honestly asking. My general impression is that we've come out slow in those games and had some really bad stretches.

Sounds like a good job for Tyler.
OMG, Tyler, you OK, bud? Coach, he was able to set his feet and took the charge, but is he gonna be OK?

I should have been clearer, this is one of the things I was specifically referring to. However, when you look at rebounds and shooting percentage, it would read like a game they won.

Fun fact, we still have a fairly good record all-time in the Big Ten Tournament: 28-20 (including a 17-8 record when it's in Chicago). At one point in 2008, we were 21-9 in the BTT, which is pretty incredible. We haven't had as much luck lately, but it's time to change that!! I'm most scared about a rematch with Iowa after that close win, but if we can get past them, we can beat Wisconsin. Neither game would be easy, of course ... no one would ever say that. However, I will take our path to the championship over playing Michigan State or Ohio State again, honestly.

Looking forward to the eventual nationwide lockdown on all travel given that over 120 people die every day in car accidents and around 400 pedestrians are seriously injured every day by vehicles.

I don't want to derail this thread, but this is not a great take. Preventative measures - the things you do to prevent something from being worse - by their very nature happen before a problem gets very serious. And we place all sorts of restrictions on driving (i.e. speed limits, seat belt laws, age limits) to try to minimize those deaths.

I agree. I am more concerned with the game after the Iowa game. The Iowa game would be a game of high intensity and it will be difficult to reach that level again the very next day.

and the second time by 3 points, in Minnesota. what do you think the line will be?

I'd guess Iowa -4, but Sagarin ratings would put it at -2.5, KenPom probably more like -2. This is the same Minnesota team that won @OSU and beat Wisconsin by 18 at home, and trailed us by 1 with two minutes left at SFC. They are better than their record and an upset would not be that surprising.

Agree. And they are playing well rn. Any time you have a big like Oturu and a gritty guard like Carr, you can be in the game.

They're 2-4 over their last 6 games with wins over Northwestern and Nebraska. Still, they know how to play.

I am not sure Minnie will get by NW. It should be a close game. Minnie could beat Iowa. Hard to
beat a team three times in a season (see 88-89 Illini). If we play the idiots out walking around again,
I believe we have the advantage in what should be considered a road game for both teams. Attack,
attack, attack and attack the rim some more. Run and run some more. They cannot match us if
we speed up the game. We are far more athletic and much less dependent on the three. GO ILLINI!!!

True, and as much as I like to rely on stats, you do wonder how much losing close games can impact a team's mentality. That said, their last 3 losses are by a combined 8 points: in a home game to a B1G champ (Maryland) and road games in two very homer-ific environments (Wisconsin and Indiana).

So we're heading over for Friday's games. Debating buying tickets in advance or seeing what we can get walking up or at the box office. Any thoughts / suggestions?
