Steve Hawkins of Western Michigan is out after 17 years as head coach (been with school for 20 years). Overall record of 291-262. Two NCAA appearances -- last in 2014. He's 57.

Any others happen yet?

I guess with the tournament all over the carousel will start early. On a slightly related note, I'm guessing a number of coaches have post season clauses in their contracts. It will be interesting to see how those get handled.

Will the Big Ten have any firings? Maybe Pitino, but no others I would think.

Texas was my immediate thought when I heard he was out.
Syracuse is a weird and intriguing option.

I don't see any decent Big Ten jobs opening up. How does the rest of the Big 12 look (or do they only hire ex-Illini coaches) for good/decent jobs opening? I would think Big East might be an option as well, but again I have no visibility to coaches on the hot-seat there.

Any position that opens up due to someone moving on to "bigger and better" would probably have already talked to Beiline to fill that bigger and better position :)
After a great season at Akron, John Groce could be a candidate for the Big 12 in 20-21! That would make it four former Illini head coaches. Unfortunately, the job that first opens up could be at Kansas State.

That actually seemed to be coming, plus he looked really weary on the sidelines that last game...maybe time to retire for good?

Replacements could be? It is UIC after all? Dennis Gates perhaps? Dan Monson or several other WCC coaches with Midwest ties?
Just checked on Gates. He's always seemed like a rising star.

He won coach of the year in his first year in the Horizon with a losing record. Not sure how often that happens.

Huh, for some reason that's a surprise though they really haven't done much sense he got there.
They actually have done quite well since he arrived. They just haven't won the conference tournament. Remember, they were a Division II school until he became coach.

We might have a defensive coordinator position open.(y)
I can only assume this is a good thing :noidea:. Love to have Dee back, but man between the guy whose spot he'd be taking, and how he left, that seems like a lot of drama.

Can he recruit without the $$$ influence? I can't imagine he'd be willing to continue being dirty while he has to assume he's being watched by the feds. I could see this being a homerun for Iona, and I can also see it being a disaster.
What has gotten lost with his most recent scandal is that Pitino is one heck of a basketball coach - probably as good as anyone in the country. He will also recruit at a very high level for Iona, so expect them to become a mid-major power very quickly

$$$ not needed to recruit to Iona with Pitino as the coach.
