What a difference a single season makes.

Last year: finished with 21 losses; fewest overall wins in the entire conference. Three-way tie for 10th place. Eked past Northwestern in overtime in the first round of the BTT, followed by a 21-pt blowout loss against Iowa in the second round. Rumblings that Brad Underwood might not be the right guy for the job.

This year: 21 wins; 13 in conference. Top 4 conference finish. Double-bye in the BTT. Swept Northwestern, Michigan, and Purdue. Capped the regular season with a satisfying win over Iowa. Ended the season ranked. Projected to be a 7-seed or better in the NCAA tournament. First-team All-Big Ten. Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Brad Underwood mentioned as a candidate for coach of the year awards.

Can't wait to see what next year holds.

This happened both years to be more precise....but yes year 2 looks/feels so much better.

This was happening after Mizzou loss this year. Very happy with the quick changes to the season following that game.

Jon Rothstein with the Illini ranked #40 in his preseason Top 45 for the 2020-21 season: https://collegehoopstoday.com/index.php/rothstein-files/early-edition-preseason-45-for-20-21/

Among the other B1G schools ranked on the list:
6. Iowa
9. Ohio State
12. Wisconsin
14. Michigan State
22. Michigan
23. Indiana
28. Rutgers
43. Purdue
44. Maryland
Eighth BIG team? Not getting much respect! Iowa with Garza is going to be tough. Don’t see any of the other teams being better with anything but recent history. Guess we have to do better than one in a row.

Not sure how Iowa makes a huge jump like that - Garza seems like he's at his ceiling (a very good ceiling) but I don't see what makes them leap 20 spots. Compare that to the jump Kofi should hopefully make next year and, well, if Giorgi can play 15% better than the latter part of this year...

On paper I think next years team could be better. In reality I think ayo, Dre, and kipper brought some intangibles that will need to be replaced for that to happen.

Is it for sure that Garza is staying for his senior year. If Ayo stays I don't see them better than us. With what we have on the bench and the starting five I don't see us at ranked #40. If Ayo leaves we are going to be better than #40. We have a very good starting 5, a very deep bench, and a great staff.

Let's all hope that BU coach speaks how good BBV is in practice later this year as he did with Griffin and the rebounding etc last year. If he does that and is right again, we worry no more about Giorgi at the 4 spot. Really think it will be tough for teams to match up against us next year and the year after especially.

The staff is/has assembled some serious talent imo.

I would be really surprised if Bohannon left Iowa. I am also curious on how his return changes the offense. They ran everything through Garza, where it all went through Bohannon the year before. Someone is going to have to adjust. I never liked Bohannon, but he has done a lot of charitable work with the children's hospital in town. Helped raise a good amount of money towards it as he sat out with an injury this year.

It's more rumors, but I have heard for a long time that Wieskamp is the guy not happy with Fran. Supposedly wanted to transfer last year, but Fran put a stop to it. Really faded the end of this year and a lot of bad body language with Fran.

Nothing like discord reports from the Squawks!

He looked very disinterested during our game.

Don’t understand PU being ranked ahead of us. ???
Also think OSU will have more difficulty replacing the Wesson’s than we will have with Ayo and Dre.

I figured Kaleb would stick around for his senior year. I hope he goes early but not sure he will.
That entire team projection list is a mess.

He is not included on the projected roster so I assumed they knew something. In any case they rated them without him.

Not yet convinced that BBV will be a huge contributor. He looked pretty much like a deer caught in the headlights when he (briefly) played at the start of the season. Hope he's able to make a huge jump during his RS-FR season!
