That's more like a beach shanty.

I will put up my entire beach community...

Little recruiting update for you guys:

I was told to keep an eye on Amauri Hardy. (https://247sports.com/Player/Amauri-Hardy-93788/high-school-179332/)

We are extremely interested. He just entered the portal. Will be a grad transfer.

Originally committed to BU at OK State.

Little brother Jaden is a top 10 player for 2021 and easily the best guard in the class. (https://247sports.com/Player/Jaden-Hardy-46049474/)

There's scant minutes available. So, if Amauri comes, gotta assume Jaden's table is being set. But that kid can go anywhere.

Why would we need another guard?
Small possibility we lose more than just Trent and Damonte after next season and no I’m not talking about Kofi.

that being said they are looking at guards with more than 1 year to play.

Illinois is actually involved here...would be a shame if Iowa got told on and couldn’t get the kid.

I wonder if this will be a situation where if he feels confident about getting an immediate waiver, he'll go elsewhere to max out his playing time. If he doesn't feel confident about getting a waiver, he sits for a year, Frazier graduates, and we have some combination of Curbelo and Carton running the point with a mix of minutes split between Miller, Grandison, Hutcherson, Griffin at the remaining guard spots?

Curbelo is not sharing the PG with Carton, no way!! Furthermore, we have a couple of SG's for 2021 that we are pretty close to ....Pinzon and Weston.

Current familiar names in portal:

Elias Valtonen would have more than 1
Jalen Carey would have more than 1
Grant Sherfield more than 1
Kahlil Whitney more than 1
Zion Griffin more than 1
Amauri Hardy more than 1
Mario McKinney after next stop more than 1
Landers Nolley more than 1

Most if not all these guys we had/have some sort of past connections, all are roughly 3.5* or higher rankings.

Have heard the same. Sure would be interesting to see...

Jake Weingarten mentioned 15 schools had made contact with Carton and Illinois was one of those 15. OTOH, Iowa and Iowa State were not on that list so go figure. If Illinois' name being mentioned on Jake's list is the same as involvement then so be it. We certainly were one of the closest.

We have a magic PG coming in. Beyond next season, he should be conducting 30 mpg. Yes, we're going to need a second banana. Carton isn't that. Heck, I don't think he'll be happy with 20 mpg. Pass.

Illinois will not get involved with Carton.

Did we all forget that DJ Carton is really really good? That he put up 10.5/3/3 a game as a freshman? While shooting 47% from the field (and 40% from 3)?

This isn't a question, if he's interested you take him. Him and Curbelo can both play serious minutes (together and staggered). Trent was the second best 3-point shooter on the team (at 30.6%). Carton and Griffin getting serious minutes/shots would almost solve the offensive issues on their own.

...and freeing Trent up to play off the ball. His shooting will improve almost immediately IMHO.

Derek Piper has a premium article (so I can't read it) with the headline, "Piper: Illini interested in adding transfer guard to backcourt". And next to the title there is a picture of two players, Pittsburgh's Trey McGowens and Wichita State's Jamarius Burton. So take that for what it is worth. In a related note when I looked up to see if I could get any other free information about this I saw an article that 6 players are transferring from Wichita State. A Wichita Eagle newspaper article said, "But on the inside, Marshall said the team dealt with more off-the-court drama than any other season in his 13 years at WSU. That dissension within the program was made public immediately following the abrupt ending to the season last Thursday, as Morris Udeze, Jamarius Burton, Erik Stevenson, Grant Sherfield, Noah Fernandes and DeAntoni Gordon have since decided to transfer. The six scholarship players leaving is the largest offseason turnover in Marshall’s tenure at WSU."

‘Learn from this and try to adapt’: WSU’s Marshall speaks after rash of transfers

On the other hand, it could just be a sign of things to come.

Just found another 247Sports article on Jamarius Burton which lists all the schools that have contacted or shown interest and Illinois is not one of them. Same for Bryce Aiken. But it is early days yet and 247Sports may not be that accurate.

Maybe Piper or someone just chose a couple of random pictures of grad guard transfers that have nothing to do with Illinois
