Also Dominican republic, Jamaica, Puerto Rico are not part of Europe last I checked.

Big Party beat me to it!
Lol exactly and the country of Georgia is basically an intersection of Europe/Asia. No need to mention Giorgi in this debate tho. Informed fans all know his awesome recruiting story. It started late his senior year when he was playing HS ball in New Jersey. Don’t think you need a passport to fly there. The only technical oversea recruits (in BU era) we received commits from are Vesell and BBV.

I don't get that. The kid has game. Outside shot, handles and averaged 6.6 assists/game. He's ready now. Yes he is thin, but so was Wagner last year and he made the B1G all frosh team. Plus, Fletch will put some muscle on him.
May be right. Hope so but transition not easy. Like his potential for sure but not proven.

Wouldn't mind OA getting involved with this kid again....Jalen Johnson transferring from Tennesse, South florida recruited him.

Remind me again what were Giorgi's HS stats, yea we weren't interested then either right?

Nevermind 6.2 and 2.6
At this point, if we are taking transfers that don't seem more high level, it feels like we are walking backwards.

From a certain point view.

Fair enough.

I believe the staff knows what they are doing here. If I’m wrong, of course I’ll be upset. But, I’m starting to think we will be a better team next year even without any additional high level pieces. Could get fun...

Go Illini

2 completely different scenarios. Giorgi was BU's first true recruiting class. He had to add depth at C after whiffing on a bunch of guys in the fall. Giorgi was a project recruit that either works out (obviously it did) or gets recruited over and leaves after a year.

Now BU has a full squad and he's looking for extra pieces that can take us to an elite level right away. I highly doubt Jalen Johnson is that guy.

In Giorgi’s remaining years, I doubt we ever see him play as well as he did in his freshman year

It seems his confidence took a big hit last year. He went from being a big part of the offense his freshman year to a bit part last year. On defense, he struggled guarding the quicker 4s , leaving him to just back up Kofi. I hope he works hard and gets his mojo back.

I recall seeing BU refer to how hard Giorgi is working, and how good his attitude remains, in a postgame press conference at the end of the season. Work is the remedy to the sophmore slump, so I'm guessing we'll see Giorgi be a key guy again in the future. He had a dream freshman year, and was the toast of the town. Once a kid gets a taste of that, he'll be very motivated to do the work required to get it back. Great kid. I'd love for him to have an incredible junior year.

It amazes me that many on here even after we have had some success' are still hung up on the superstar recruits or the big names. Some of the lesser names helped get us here...by the way it may have not panned out at Tennessee but this kid as a 3/4* out of high school? Either way I doubt we would go for him, but OA did once before, and yes he did also with Feliz IIRC?

Remember when he “committed” to Illinois...

I think you are underrating Hawkins like many, but we do have a strong guard core with Trent, Miller, DMW, Curbello, Grandson and Hutcherson. Not sure if Wichita transfer Udeze is a stretch or regular 4?

I am reasonably positive that a true freshman, 3* Hawkins, even if he really is much better than he's ranked, would not come close to making the impact that Fitts would. That's about as near a guarantee as is possible in this kind of thing.

I'm not hung up on that at all. Read my posts and you see I'm 100% behind the staffs choices. However, is there any indication that the transfer you mentioned is being pursued by the staff?

Some posters means other than you....(s) is plural, but if the shoe fits at times wear it. I have to occasionally as well, hell I was all into Tevian when we first got him to commit, I mean a 4* from Cali to Illinois-recruiting inroads. Shouldn't have gotten hung up on that one for sure, wore that shoe...see not so hard and certainly no offense meant.

There wasn't any indication that Giorgi was being recruited, Feliz was late into the game, Kofi was a pipe dream for the longest and Griffin was considered a major reach, one which many just accepted and gave a pass on, with good reason.

How often have many so called "linked" players been pipe dreams and pages on top of pages at nauseum been spouted out about how good our chances are, and then nothing....a link or two for any other player seems perfectly fine to me.

All that said, there are most on here that have far more insight with actual knowledge than you or certainly I, doesn't hurt to speculate on any player, certainly one that has been linked to certain coaches in the past.

Either way it just adds to good basketball conversations or at least it could, during very boring times....I will continue to speculate on any player that looks as if they might be good for us one way or another.
