Brad Underwood a couple weeks ago: “I love sit-out guys. It’s a year of knowing a system, learning terminology, getting in the weight room, getting stronger, and that's happened in both our guys’ cases where they've added close to 20 pounds. They deal with our nutrition. In my time as a coach, it's very, very seldom has there ever come anything bad from a guy sitting out. They get academically acclimated. Basketball, they get acclimated. There's very little failure or anything negative that happens to a guy that comes in and sits out and continues his career after that.”
Werner had the interview on the podcast if anyone wants to listen to it, don’t remember if it was his show or Illini Inquirer. It also sounded like the only grad transfer they would be likely to take is a stretch 4, barring a no brainer falling in there lap

DJ Carton would be a great addition. Assuming he has to sit out, he'll take most of Trent's minutes in 21-22 and still have three years of eligibility then.

We have one open spot assuming Ayo stays right? I think a sit out guard is the ideal AG replacement, but another 4/5 wouldn't be too upsetting.

Like Rapolas Ivanauskas, former Barrington star, and past Patroit League POY at Colgate?

Understood, not sure he would love one THIS year unless immediate availibilty. We shall see though.
I see why BU loves Sit Out guys. BU's 'system' seems to take some time to get accustomed to.

You could see all of this coming though when kids started transferring middle schools to be on another team.

This would be a great pickup for us, sure there are many others in line ahead of us though...Maryland, Dayton, G-Town, Cincy head coaches have all reached out already per 24/7.

side note hadn't seen posted: We did not make Nolley's final 11 schools, Memphis is believed to have a really good shot.

Good. I didn't think he was what we needed.

For some of us that follow transfers declaring and others that follow it and worry about the ILLINI transfers each year and how it looks, look at the numbers so far this year.

There are most schools with 3-5 transfers from the same school, and several with as many as 6-such as Tennessee Tech (Phelprey is the coach). It may not be a good optical for the ILLINI, but I don't think it sheds a bad light if you will on our beloved team/staff. It's a numbers game with oversigns, transfers, etc....

The sign of the times are going this way and have been for some time. 690 as of today listed, I would hazard a guess and say that this number may triple next year with the new ruling going into effect.

Rider graduate transfer Frederick Scott is down to six programs: Illinois, Arkansas, Illinois State, Boston College, San Francisco and USD.

He will announce his decision with @AllFactsMedia tomorrow evening.

+1 and I think it gets worse the higher your talent level. Most players are impatient with their development, and if they're looking at a roster where they'd have to improve significantly to get starter's PT, they start to believe the promises they hear about an easier path. It starts in AAU, and in some cases, it's at least partially true. As fans, we're kind of lazy --we want less turnover and more certainty (unless we're the ones poaching, of course).

You can look up and down the BIG and see plenty of turnover for all kinds of reasons. If you haven't embraced it, you probably need to change your thinking about college bball, because it's not going to go back.

Maybe we get him when he transfers again next year

Western Michigan transfer Brandon Johnson commits to Minnesota

"I picked Minnesota because I think it's the best opportunity for me especially with them being in the Big Ten conference," Johnson said. "I think it's the best way to accomplish my dreams after this year."

I really think they got a good one here, he will flourish there. The center left, so free reins to Johnson now on offense?
