Happy Will Wade didn't get to play in the tournament this year. The denial game only bought him more time and he just burned a year

SI had an article today saying a tape recording will be played on HBO on March 31st, which will change his life. Not for the better.

The documentary helped me understand all that was going on. Basically, the middle guy took the blame and a few assistant coaches. The head coaches and the shoe companies basically got away with paying players. It appears Wade (LSU) and Miller (U of A) will get away with the NCAA violations. If you don't hate Miller, you will after seeing this film... for his blatant behavior and how he talked about one of his players in very racist language. If I was a young BB player, I would never step foot on the LSU or U of A campus!

It certainly appears that someone told the FBI to back off. As usual...money talks and bull---- walks.

And that's how the powers that be want it. Offload the rule-breaking to those who are expendable, but tacitly let them know it's ok as long as you don't get caught embarrassing us.

Speaking of how money and winning trumps all: Pitino hired by Iona

I'm impressed with the lengths Pitino will go to avoid accountability. He claims to this day that he was "blackballed" by the NCAA, and exonerated by the investigation and trial.

"Was I innocent of any wrongdoing? Yes I was, but I was the leader and I deserved to be fired."

And I love this quote, "excuses I always believe are a sign of weakness," Pitino said. "I made excuses. I should've just said, 'I hired him. I take full responsibility. "

It took him 2 and a half years and settling all the charges and lawsuits to get to the point where he says he should have done that  The power of the human psyche to rationalize is amazing....

Kansas details are out. Five level 1 violations among others. Says the egregious violations threaten and undermine the collegiate model. Perhaps Self will finally get what's coming? Not holding my breath but would be great for Kansas to finally be held accountable.

Honestly, my gut says they’ll find some way to avoid the worst of it...I’ve learned not to trust that the Bluebloods will ever get severely tagged, no matter how obvious their actions are.

I have to think the smart money is on nothing happening to Self and the program in general. So long as the boosters and money men are willing to testify under oath that Self didn't know anything the NCAA will have a very hard time showing that he did. They may get a slap on the wrist but Self, like other blue blood coaches, is teflon.

The NCAA doesn't have much power, BUT, as weak as they've been, they do have things of value --like the record books. Vacating Louisville's NC was pretty serious. And they should also have the power of post-season bans, and sanctions on the coach.

I wouldn't bet on them looking the other way in this case, since the feds got involved. Either way, it will be an interesting test of the usual excuses ("I don't recall", my lieutenants or boosters did it, etc.)

Williams is pretty much the definition of a teflon coach. He arrived at Kansas for a probation year based on Larry Brown's activities. He survived the academic sham at UNC without so much as a smudge.
