Coaches (High School) are not the final decision makers. In a lot of cases they are far from it. Think about this for second. Coach Reed in STL is great friend with Patterson. I mean great friends, yet not one of his top players have chose Illinois. I know the reason and it's not because he don't like Patterson.
You are smart enough to know this is a major statement to make, especially on a fan message board

This. Just look at past turns (2007, 2010 & 2011, 2018 with the Purdue game). Fans showed up despite the overall lack of success or feeling of a disappointing letdown simply because there was some hope. There is no other program similar to ours over the last 25 years that still has as much support. Even Minny, in the middle of a historic season, was selling out their stadium, and they have had more success in the last 10 years than we have.

Not sure where you're getting your numbers from but if opposing teams did not travel well our average attendance would be under 30,000. It's pretty sad to be at games and have opposing fans cheer louder than the home team. The marketing dept. and the powers that be need to get people in the stands. The TV people hardly can show a decent angle shot without showing how many empty seats there are. I know winning brings the fans but it did not stop Cubs fans :)!

Attendance always lags a year behind success. If we win 8 games in 2020, our 2021 attendance will improve.... The 6-7 season last year may have given the fans enough hope to show up this year but it's too soon to say.

He really is an incredible athlete.
At first, I just thought we were settling based on limited commits and offer list. However, for this one, I am just extremely intrigued by his athletic abilities. I mean he is probably faster than most of our safeties, running backs, etc... if he can be 215 by his sophomore year, I truly believe this may be a steal. I dont make many posts, but that is just outstanding speed for a lb. I mean the bears went for a speed receiver in this years draft who ran a 4.37 and this guy is .3 behing him?

Why didn’t Tresean Smith play for Loserville this past season? I saw he was a pretty significant starter his first two

I’m saying to look at Kansas and some other schools that have been as bad over the last 25 years. Even look at some schools that have had slightly more success than we have (Indiana is a great example), and they have fewer fans showing up. Do you think I enjoy seeing a half empty stadium? Absolutely not. I’m one of the only people on this board that has worked for the team, and I saw the fans come out and support during good/great seasons in the late 2000s and early 2010s. And yet those were consistently followed up by disappointment. How will you consistently get season ticket holders and people driving 3+ hours to spend money on the program when that’s what you get? Build a consistent 6-8 win team, with an occasional 5 and 9 win season thrown in, and you will have the stadium full. That just hasn’t happened since the 80s and early 90s, before a significant percentage of potential fans’ lifetimes. I’m 31, been going to games since I was 4, and I’ve seen a total of 5 winnings seasons. There is no way else to describe that but pathetic.

Hearing of another commitment coming from the south. I think it’s the 2nd rod smith gif he tweeted a couple days ago. Should be a good get if it’s who I think.

That's great news; keep the momentum going! Does that mean we have seen all the commitments for the gifs that have been tweeted or will we still be waiting on one or two to make it "official"?

So from what I’ve gathered. The first two were tresean smith and sedarius McConnell. The first one from Thursday was Trevor moffit. The second one from Thursday is the one that hasn’t been accounted for. Still waiting on sedarius to make it official at the start of next week. Since Robert Delaney and rod smith we’re the ones sending out the commitment gif I think it’s a O-linemen. Trevor Timmons makes the most sense to me. Him and moffit were the two I heard were going to commit last weekend.

If it's Trevor Timmons it will be a headscratcher. He may be a good talent, but based on his offer list we could hold off for a while waiting for bigger fish (if there are any that is)

We are not in the position to slow play kids we like. Guys like Timmons are hurt with there being no camps. O-lineman typically pick up most of their offers from camps going into their senior year. I trust the staff when it comes to under the radar evals.

That is true however stars are not based on film 100%. They are based more on measurable and what the writers think colleges will recruit. If stars were based on film, you would have at totally different ranking system. There is a huge difference between highlights and game film. I am sure you agree.
I read where the highly rated recruits - high 4 star and 5 star are rated more on pro characteristics than college ability.
