And with this now happening, Myles Garrett is the only one from the top 5 of the 2017 draft that has had his 5th year option picked up by the team that drafted him.

The NFL as a whole really didn't have the top of that draft well-scouted, because after 1-5, six of the next 7 picks were Jamal Adams, Mike Williams, Christian McCaffrey, Patrick Mahomes, Marshon Lattimore and Deshaun Watson.

Pretty much. The ESPN article listed Robinson, Miller, and Patterson as locks to make the roster so Ginn would be fighting it out with guys like Wims, Ridley, Mooney, and former Packer Trevor Davis for the 4th and 5th WR spots.
I've never understood why Wims never made much of an impact, other than being called for blocking behind the back downfield numerous times. I suppose I will continue to wonder well into the future as he is probably not long for this roster.

NFL schedule released tonight which of course means portions of the schedule are being leaked this morning and this afternoon. Here's what has leaked so far for the Bears schedule:

-Week 1: @ Detroit (Wait, you mean we don't play them on Thanksgiving again?)
-Week 5: Thursday Night Football home vs. Tampa Bay
-Week 7: Monday Night Football @ Los Angeles Rams
-Week 10: Monday Night Football vs. Minnesota
-Sunday after Thanksgiving: Sunday Night Football @ Green Bay
-Week 17: Home vs. Green Bay (Wait, the Bears close the season somewhere other than @ Minnesota?)

About 7-9? I just don’t think the offense will be particularly improved.
ESPN preseason prediction article has the Bears at 7-9 and fourth in the central after GB, MN, and 8-8 Lions. The prospects for a wasted year seem good.

Are the bears worse after what some would call a disastrous 8-8 campaign with a much tougher schedule last season? Probably not in my opinion.

The first 4 games give them the opportunity to make a run early. Week 8-12 will be the toughest stretch with 4 playoff teams including 2 divisional opponents.

Packers have a tough stretch coming off their early bye. They're at Tampa and Houston, home vs. Minnesota, and then travel to San Francisco on a short week to play on a Thursday night.

I agree with this. Also imagine this hypothetical: What if the 2018 and 2019 seasons had occurred in reverse order; in Nagy's first season they go 8-8, Trubisky struggles but the end result is a clear improvement over 2017, and then the Bears go 12-4 last season and the trajectory is clearly up. Doesn't matter at all but interesting to think about. In that scenario 2020 isn't such a make-or-break for Pace, Nagy, or Trubisky.

But are they any better?

The schedule is not much easier. Last year’s ranked 12th, while this year’s projects to about 20th.

They were 6-3 in games decided by 7 points or less last year, including the week 17 win when the Vikings sat their starters.

They were by pretty much every statistical measure one of the three worst offenses in the League last year

I think there’s a solid argument that they were lucky to go 8-8 last year.

If one of their 2 qbs shows they can play, then they’ll probably make the playoffs, but I see no reason to expect that to happen.

with hicks returning and Quinn they should be better defensively at least

Hicks was a huge loss. I know the defense still rated above average, but without Hicks, they were no longer dominant.

Agreed. That’s also where Floyd not being impactful hurt. Pure double/triple on Mack every time. Now if one gets hurt we should still have something. And at full strength, man...

Former Bears president and chairman Michael McCaskey passed away yesterday at the age of 76 following a long battle with cancer. He was team president during the '85 Bears season but frequently clashed with Ditka and fired him and was also responsible for the hiring and firing of Dave Wannstedt. He was stripped of his team president title following the botched hiring of Dave McGinnis early in 1999 and remained Chairman of the Board until 2011, when his brother George McCaskey took over.

Maybe he should have seen it coming, but I was surprised at the intensity of the Drew Brees criticism. Even his apology wasn’t enough to satisfy.

Imagine if it were literally anyone other than Drew Brees who said it. Brees definitely gets a little more leeway to correct his mistake due to his reputation. I think random other white qb would be in much hotter water.

Drew Brees had blinders on with that statement, which is unfortunate, but blinders can be minimized and learned from. I hope the apology is the first step in the road to personal growth/exploration.

Bills' rookie QB Jake Fromm on the other hand, that was overt racism and may take a longer road to de-program.

It's an issue with reading the room, so to speak. Given the current climate in this country, Brees could have used his words better with his initial response. If you all get a chance, take a listen to some of the interviews Akiem Hicks did earlier this week.

For some of us it's not a about what is trending favorably at the moment, but a matter of what is ethically and morally imperative.

Dang Jake Fromm, hard to come back from that phrase. "Elite white people", smh. If/when training camp starts, he may have some issues.
